New York Post Looking to Interview Gay Tax Resisters Living in New York City
Charles Merrill forwarded the following letter to me and asked that I share it with all of you.

Dear Mr. Merrill:
We were interested to read of your civil disobedience – that is, withholding your state and federal income tax this year in protest of the White House not recognizing gay marriages.
As gay marriage is an important issue here as well, I would love to hear from any gay adults in New York City who might be following your lead by also withholding income tax payments this year.
Please have anyone who’s interested in talking about such a protest contact me asap.

::sigh:: I admire his stance. I often wish I had the internal fortitude to risk jail for something like this. This country is founded on capitalism and paying taxes is integral to our system. This form of civil disobediance would be one of the most effective ways to make a statement if it could somehow be organized and large numbers of people could be persuaded to take part. I just don’t see it happening and I fear Mr. Merrill will simply wind up in jail without enough fanfare to cause even a ripple of awareness.
