From DallasNews.com:

NEW ORLEANS — A church that serves gay, bisexual and transgendered members has been kicked out of its temporary home by the Archdiocese of New Orleans because the church supports gay marriage.

The Metropolitan Community Church of Greater New Orleans had a 12-month lease within the Project Lazarus complex, a facility owned by the archdiocese that provides hospice services to AIDS patients, many of whom are gay.

But after three months, the archdiocese terminated the lease.

“This particular group blesses gay unions, which we do not support,” said the Rev. William Maestri, a spokesman for the archdiocese.

Maestri said that after learning of the church’s teachings, the diocese had to act because continuing the lease might create the impression that it was either indifferent or in support of the teachings of that church.

The Rev. Dexter Brecht, leader of the Metropolitan Community Church, said the decision was “another blatant example of the homophobic policies present in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.”

“We believe that homosexuality is one of the sexualities created by God, which is in contradiction to Roman Catholic teachings that say homosexuality is bad,” Brecht said.

Maestri said Project Lazarus serves people with AIDS and does not reject gay men and lesbians. The Catholic church ministers to the gay community through various support groups, he said.

Sure, we minister to the gay community, but supporting gay marriage is just going way too far. Marriage is ours. Ours! Ours! Ours!
