Radio Stations Online

If you are like me you currently have an Apple iPod with the ability to download music from iTunes and may soon be ready to buy a new iPhone to bring more interactive with your cell phone and music.  A live on-air radio station is so much more fun sometimes because you are not picking every song and can be surprised when you hear an old dance favorite.  No one listens to old school radio anymore on the FM or AM airwaves because it is all junk music and too much advertising.  If you have upgraded your car stereo you could get a new HD Radio station from Clear Channel called Pride Radio.  It is part of a new mix of high definition stations to hit your car and home stereo.

The most popular gay friendly stations are on Sirius satellite radio where you have OutQ and the Beat.  The Beat plays dance music 24 hours a day with no commercials but you have to pay a monthly fee to get this luxury.  I have listened to the Beat since our local dance station was taken away on the FM dial and love satellite radio.  It does go in and out under bridges sometimes but it may be my setup in my car.

There are also online gay stations to get your party started.  GayDar was a popular radio network but it only plays for the UK recently because of license issues.  Although, here in the U.S. you can hear Clear Channels Pride Radio online and there is lots of great choices listed on Queers.cc.

Queers.cc seems to have the largest choice of gay friendly stations.  Netscape radio also has a gay pride channel.  It seems a newly active gay radio station is gayinternetradiolive.com where you can hear streaming dance hits.  They also provide a lesbian lounge around 9pm CST.  If you can put this in your Winamp and listen it might be nice but if you have to have that big popup going and refreshing I would just listen to one of the Winamp channels on Queers.cc.

XM Satellite radio also has free streaming through their AOL partnership.  Just sign in with your AOL screen name and get free XM.  They offer a great channel with women musicians that I just love plus they have a dance station.  XM radio also has Air America which hosts progressive politics and keeps us in the know.

Gay Search Engine

I noticed recently that many of us are without a gay search engine that represents our niche. I searched online on the mainstream engine and found a few that just bring up link sites or redirects. You even have to look through several pages of content to even find a search box on most gay sites we visited.

We would like to point out some things a gay search should contain. First, it should include the authority gay sites such as gay.com and planetout.com. It should also feature news such as Planet Out, Instinct, and Genre provide.

Secondly, the gay search engine should give us the take on the blog world such as this blog and celebrity gossip sites such as Jason Curious and Perez Hilton. Video search should be a good thing to include in this because we all love to watch videos on YouTube and Comedy Central.

Finally, a gay search site built that is the ultimate source of news, personals, opinion, and even porn searches. We noticed there are lots of gays searching for roommates, clubs/nightlife scene, and certainly for things like gay realtors and services that can make our life easier in the GLBT community. We are not always searching for celebrity news and gay sex but there are many things to be contained in such a customized search.

We will give this search engine a try and include some sites we feel contain lots of good information. There is no guarantee that it is the best and we promise to add sites daily. Let’s just say it is in Beta mode right now until we get to research all the gay related sites to include in this search module. Stay tuned for more on this.

Lesbian Kissing

There is not a lot of good information on an intense topic that needs to be uncovered. That topic is Lesbians or girls kissing. Having been writing for and about adult sites for a few years I was aware that lesbianism falls into two camps: real sites for real lesbian girls and sites that provide girl on girl sex for men. I didn’t want to write about the latter and so approached my internet search engine with caution. Having entered ‘Lesbians kissing’ into the search box I then started one of my link by link explorations of the top ten sites to appear.First up was something I’d never heard of called Bullz-Eye and the page bullz-eye.com/opposite_sex/lesbians.htm Fearing something ‘straight’ I was actually interested to see that this was more or less a ‘sensible’ page, although it’s definitely a site written for and probably by men. Ignore the text though and check the images, there are some very sensual ones (which is what we are looking for) and some sexy girls from Penthouse locking tongues.

Listed sites two and three were what I’d expected – straight sex sites for frustrated guys but number four threw up a news article. I was starting to enjoy this task! The article (at if you want to read it) concerned a court case between a restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden that was fined 50,000 Krona for throwing a woman out simply because she kissed her girlfriend. Great news for equality and a pie in the face for homophobic Swedish restaurateurs.

Listed link number five also concerned itself with two women being ejected from a restaurant because they were kissing. This article was at gay.netscape.com which looks like a good community based magazine site. From link six I found a great photo of two Chinese lesbians kissing in Tiananmen Square, right under a portrait of Chairman Mao and in front of two guards. This was a post on a blog site, boingboing.net.

Next up was Jennifer Aniston’s nose. What? Well that’s what the article was mainly about but there was a discussion about her kiss with Courteney Cox in Dirt. I have to admit it was a pretty short article but a great photo of Jennifer. Next came a link to a similarly themed page; Heather Graham and Bridget Moynahan in the new movie Gray Matters. I haven’t seen this movie and don’t know much about Heather Graham but here’s an insight into what she thought of kissing another woman: “She was a pretty good kisser. The lips are very soft and sweet.” (Thanks to egostatic.com)

The next site to come up was definitely a lesbian themed porn site; lesbianlog.com with loads of what appeared to be free galleries featuring two or more sexy girls indulging in Lesbian sex. There were a few men there too but I got the impression that if you were looking for lesbian titillation as either a boy or girl you’d enjoy these pages. There were also links to lesbian e-zines and paysites and of course, lots of lesbian kissing action. Definitely an adult site worth checking out.

Finally on my top ten list was http://www.timekiller.com/index~search~Kiss.htm a long URL but one which led to various articles and video clips of famous women kissing other famous women, (and a lot of other naughty things too.)

So what can I conclude from this brief whiz around the web? I was pleased to see that the sites that came up weren’t all dirty old men sites where two girls kissing is treated as titillation only. They were mainly news stories which led me to believe that it’s still news for two women to kiss in public, famous or otherwise. Even these days it seems that such an act raises eyebrows, well I never!

What is your favorite lesbian kiss?

True Colors Tour

This concert tour is going to be huge.  It is the first time I can think of a Gay and Lesbian event organized to have so many great bands and presenters since the Lilith Fair. I was just thinking the other day how it would be great to put something together like the Lilith Fair where Sarah McLachlan, Martina McBride, and many others joined in to sing and we drank beer and had a fabulous time.  I remember people at the radio station calling it a “Lilly-licking fair” instead of Lilith fair — and yes lots of gays and lesbians attended it even though it was a mainstream event.  Come to think of it you see fellow lesbians at most outside concerts even if there is not a gay act involved.

True Colors will be a concert marketed directly to gays and lesbians and their rights. It is nice to have something to do since Madonna is not touring this year.  The True Colors tour touring through 15 cities across America represents people standing together with music representing Equality for All.  Margaret Cho will be the host of the event benefiting the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

The True Colors event will be held in cities such as San Diego, Atlanta, Las Vegas, with 15 cities in total.  Cyndi Lauper will be the headliner along with Erasure who has had lots of top ten dance songs throughout their career including “Chains of Love” and “Always”.  Rosie O’ Donnell will be a special presenter at some dates along with the Indigo Girls (Las Vegas date only), The Cliks, and Amanda Lepore the “#1 Transsexual in the World”.

I was already sold when it said Erasure and Cyndi Lauper but all of these are fabulous acts and it will be a night of erotica and euphoria.  I cannot forget to mention two other huge names Debbie Harry and Rufus Wainwright (D.C. & Boston).  You will also see The Dresden Dolls, The Gossip, and The Misshapes.

Matthew Shepards’ mother Judy Shepard will be joining Cyndi on stage during the Denver and NYC shows. This is a great opportunity for gay families to come out and enjoy each other and embrace the wonderful music. You may want to catch more than one show since there are so many acts you do not want to miss that may only play in some cities.

Hate Crime Vote

In Oklahoma City just before the hate crime legislation comes up in front of our representatives there was a hate crime over the weekend in the gay district of the city. There is no telling how hate crimes go unreported or do not get enough media attention. The vote on hate crimes will be Thursday, and there is some disturbing news we have received from the Human Rights Campaign. Apparently legislators are being so heavily bombarded with calls and emails from the radical right that some are getting very nervous about voting for the bill. Knowing how close we are to getting this legislation passed, this is not good.

Even if you’ve already called your representative about this hate crime bill, and even if they’ve said they’ll vote for it, we need you to pick up the phone Today (Wednesday and Thursday) and remind them of your support.

I would recommend you going to the HRC website for talking points and to find out which representative to call.

If you haven’t done so then join the HRC. They are out there fighting for our rights every day. Tell your friends, send out a bulletin on MySpace.com, and get everyone involved. They need more money and more people involved to make this fight stronger with the radical right bullying us and politicians around.

Ellen’s Positive Thinking

Ellen DeGeneres did the entire talk show today from her hospital bed. Her doctor was on there explaining her back injury.  You could tell she was spacey (and funny as always) but probably in some pain while doing her show. Said she was on very strong pain meds (norco), but she kept calling it Norelco.  All her guests were in a bed next to her.  A very creative way to do a daytime talk show.

Ellen has so much spirit and personality.  I would like to see her run for president.  Ellen is one of the only celebrities to donate such a big amount to charity including the $100,000 for American Idol Gives Back last week.  Ellen is the perfect role model for many reasons and I hope her show continues on for years unless of course she makes that run for president!

If you want to fill out the hospital experience form or see her show online check out this link to replay some parts of the show.
