Queer Shorts

When I first posted the call for submissions for _Queer: Four Decades after Stonewall_ (_Queer: Four Decades after Stonewall_ has been replaced with the title _Queer Shorts_ in an effort to create the best possible presentation of all selected submissions) back in May 2005, I never imagined just how many submissions would come in. I received tons of great stories! (Really, don’t be shocked if you receive an email from me asking if I can use your submission in a future book if it was not selected for this one.)

I’m excited to announce that _Queer Shorts_ will feature the following selections:

Evelyn by Gayle Lloyd
Key West by Jeff Mann
Sun, Moon, Stars by William Reichard
When Gay is the New Straight by Nairne Holtz
Room for Rent by Ethereal
Leaving Indiana by Alan Witchey
Dear Tiger by S.G. Reichen
The Power of Hair by Monica Dulberg
The Lover and the Patient by F.I. Goldhaber
Finding Room by Jen Burke
Portrait of an Artist by Sally Bellerose

_Queer Shorts_ will be available via Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, QueerShorts.com (live soon) and other major book outlets. Stay tuned for more updates!

  1. […] That book would be called Queer Shorts, an anthology edited by Maria Angeline of Daily Dose of Queer.com. She posted about its release date here: When I first posted the call for submissions for Queer: Four Decades after Stonewall (Queer: Four Decades after Stonewall has been replaced with the title Queer Shorts in an effort to create the best possible presentation of all selected submissions) back in May 2005, I never imagined just how many submissions would come in. 2. […] Another Queer Shorts excerpt! This one’s from Gayle Lloyd’s “Evelyn.” That night, in Evelyn’s bedroom, we slipped into separate twin beds. She had offered a quick hug, but no kiss, when I arrived and had brushed aside my gestures of affection. She was friendly but not loving. I hoped for a better response once we were alone and the lights were out. […]

  3. […] _Queer Shorts_ is coming soon! Here’s a snippet from Jen Burke’s “Finding Room” (also posted at her blog here): I have never had an affair with a married person. I am not your first affair during your long marriage. I need to hear it all again and again. Tell me. I ask you many questions about the other women. There were plenty of indiscretions on your part. There was the clichéd secretary you slept with over a period of years. You started sleeping with her during a blizzard when the roads were sheeted with ice. You couldn’t drive home, so you slept at work. She was the one who had a raspy voice and made necklaces woven out of chicken wire in her spare time. You haven’t spoken to her in fifteen years. I always ask about her. You never tell me what color her hair was, how she wore it. […]

  4. […] Jeff Mann, whose story “Key West” appears in _Queer Shorts_ (excerpt coming soon), also has a creative nonfiction piece, “Plantation Fantasies,” in the forthcoming anthology _Identity Envy: Wanting to Be Who We’re Not_. I’ve been looking forward to the release (winter 2006/2007) of _Identity Envy_ for a while now. Read all about _Identity Envy_ here. […]

  5. […] I mentioned here (where you can see another excerpt) that my short fiction, “Finding Room,” will be included in an anthology titled Queer Shorts. The editor, Maria Angeline, announced the selections here, where you can see links to other contributors’ websites. […]

  6. […] Well, actually, I mean, Queer Shorts is available for preorder now. […]
