I’m Not a Democrat Because I’m Queer

I’m a democrat because I believe that high taxes, big government and more social programs is the way to go. It has nothing to do with how much I love big breasts. Therefor, I don’t get people who bash gay republicans. Being a republican has about as much to do with your sexual orientation as your socks do. Yes, the republican party may have been hijacked by a large group of anti-gay individuals, but I don’t believe that republican values (yea, I know, I hate the word too but I’m using it anyway) stand in opposition to homosexuality. And as for President Clinton and his self-loathing comment (a topic of discussion over at GayPatriot), I’m embarrassed by it. If the majority of accountants were anti-choice, would an accountant having an abortion be self-loathing?

Maybe it’s time we took a little trip to Politics 101 and what it means (what it really means) to be a republican.

I think the Log Cabin Republicans have the best blurb on core republican beliefs around (big thanks to Sue for this and to Jen for her link assistance too):

We are loyal Republicans. We believe in low taxes, limited government, strong defense, free markets, personal responsibility, and individual liberty.

People of any sexual orientation can share those beliefs.

I know it may seem like I’m fighting the republican fight with this opinion, but I’m not. I’m not a republican. I’m a bad democrat. Just like I’m a bad lesbian. I have unpopular beliefs. I don’t see why I can’t be a democrat and never want to see a pure democracy or why I can’t be a lesbian solely because of who I fuck and regardless of my political beliefs, whether I eat meat or how high my heels are.

Philly Gives OK for Abused Gay Teens Home

There is still good news.

Posted on Wed, Apr. 27, 2005

Philadelphia’s Zoning Board of Adjustment yesterday gave the go-ahead to a city-sponsored group home for abused and neglected gay, lesbian and transgender teens.

The Bethel Community, on the 900 block of South Third Street, will have space for eight teenagers living under the care of the city’s Department of Human Services. The facility will be administered by Lutheran Children and Family Service, a nonprofit social-services agency under contract with the city.

Bethel will be one of only a small handful of similar facilities across the country. Other group homes for gay youths are located in Massachusetts, California, and New York - where Philadelphia currently contracts to send five youngsters.

Human Services Commissioner Cheryl Ransom-Garner said a gay-oriented group home would help those who might be bullied or teased elsewhere in the foster-care system, which consists of group homes as well as placements with foster families.

Father Arrested Objecting to Homosexual Curriculum

LEXINGTON, Mass, April 29, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – David Parker was arrested Wednesday by Lexington Police, allegedly for “trespassing” at his son’s elementary school, while attending a scheduled meeting with the principal and the city’s Director of Education over his objections to homosexual curriculum materials and discussions in his son’s kindergarten class.

According to an “Article 8 Alliance” press release, at the meeting, Parker requested that the school inform him of when homosexual discussions would take place, so he could exclude his son from the activity. He said he would not leave until his request was granted. The Principal and the city’s Director of Education both refused his request. They then telephoned the Superintendent of Schools who also refused. Police were called, who told Parker that unless he left the school, he would be arrested.

How does someone get here? How do you get to a place, mentally, where you are so bothered by your child being present for homosexual discussions at school that you refuse to leave your son’s school until they agree to notify you before any discussion including homosexuality so you can save him from such a disgusting topic? It seems literally crazy to me.

Are You Gay?

Straight girl worry number # 1749:

To ask, or not to ask – that is the question … that I am not prepared to answer. Is it okay for a woman to ask a guy in whom she is interested if he is gay? Is it ever okay to ask the “gay question?” At what point is it awkward or even insulting?

Hmm… it takes two seconds to ask the question and get your answer and maybe a couple of months or more to, instead of asking, investigate, ponder and discuss the topic with everyone you know. This is a hard one.

Shirley Manson’s Lesbian Sex Offers

Garbage

Shirley Manson says women are throwing themselves at her:

GARBAGE singer SHIRLEY MANSON is dumbfounded at the endless stream of women who attempt to seduce her.

The STUPID GIRL star has discovered lusty male fans are too intimidated by her height to approach her for sex, whereas girl groupies are uninhibited in their quest for intimacy with Manson.

She says, “Women offer to sleep with me all the time, but not men. They’re all talk and no action. If I go near most of our male following, they are freaked.

“I think my height has got a lot to do with it.”

From contactmusic.com.

I think men may be intimidated by more than her height, but it shouldn’t stop her from approaching them. Unless, of course, she’d like to see where this female groupie thing might lead her.

Gerald Allen Wants Books by Gay Authors Gone

Republican Alabama lawmaker Gerald Allen says homosexuality is an unacceptable lifestyle. As CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann reports, under his bill, public school libraries could no longer buy new copies of plays or books by gay authors, or about gay characters.

“I don’t look at it as censorship,” says State Representative Gerald Allen. “I look at it as protecting the hearts and souls and minds of our children.”

Call for Papers: Young Queer Activists

From Maura Ryan:

I’m looking for personal essays (or poetry) for an anthology
called Rise and Resist: Young Queer Women Do Activism.

I want to create a snapshot of what young queer women are doing to resist the current oppressive political climate that engulfs our lives. This is an outlet for illustration of our legacy of creative queer women’s resistance and an offering of hope for future endeavors in queer activist struggles.

Possible topics may include, but are certainly not limited to:
- How one became involved in queer activism/learning how to become an activist
- Everyday activism(s)
- Historical presence of activism
- What we’ve learned from lesbian separatism/the current place of lesbian separatism
- Queering the queer: bi and trans activisms
- Coalition-building politics
- Gender activism as queer activism
- Experiences in activist organizations/circles
- Activist families (chosen or biological)
- Support networks in queer activism
- The importance of street activism(s), radical activism(s), etc.
- Queer activism in this particular political climate

Gays Sexually Abuse Children

Last week, the Texas House of Representatives passed a child-services bill with an amendment that would make Texas the first state in the nation to prevent same-sex couples from becoming foster parents. The state Senate passed a conflicting bill without that measure, and the two bodies are debating how to proceed.

The proposed ban attracted national media attention, and several “pro-family” groups seeking to drum up support for the bill have been circulating some troubling stats about gay parents. Among the most striking, stated during a CNN program: children in foster homes with same-sex parents are 11 times as likely to be sexually abused as those with heterosexual parents…

Ms. Adams [president of the Dallas-based Texas Eagle Forum advocacy group] told me that her source for the claim [that children in foster homes with same-sex parents are 11 times as likely to be sexually abused as those with heterosexual parents] was an article she had read on the conservative site WorldNetDaily, about a study published in February by Paul Cameron, chairman of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Family Research Institute, a group that says homosexuality is a major public-health threat. In the journal Psychological Reports, Dr. Cameron analyzed cases of sexual abuse committed against foster children and children in subsidized adoption homes, as reported to Illinois’s Department of Children and Family Services from 1997 to 2002. There were 270 reports, and 34% of those were same-sex in nature: committed by a male adult against a male child, or a female adult against a female child. Dr. Cameron called those homosexual acts of abuse, and, citing several studies, including a joint report by the University of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, concluded that gays make up between 1% and 3% of the adult U.S. population. “Thus, homosexual practitioners were proportionately more apt to sexually abuse foster or adoptive children,” Dr. Cameron wrote.

If you click over and keep reading (which I highly recommend), you’ll see that once again gays are being equated to child molesters. The 34% of the reported cases that were same-sex in nature in the study in question were not reported as taking place in a home with homosexual parents. These cases could have happened in heterosexual homes, by heterosexual adults. The assumption was made that if an adult male sexually abuses a male child or an adult female sexually abuses a female child, they must be gay. Not they must be child molesters.
