It seems that some Kylie Minogue fans are not too happy with The Madonna after the Superbowl saying that her Aphrodite concert was sort of copied. There are some differences but it is still not exactly the same colors or even the same crowns or headpieces used. While they both used gladiator looking man slaves to pull them around and deeply catered to the gay community it was not exactly too “reductive” as Madonna would say. Kylie Minogue did put on an amazing tour here in the US and worldwide where she used the Aphrodite greek goddess theme. It was a must-see show just like Madonna’s tour will be when it comes around this year. Kylie may also get a chance to see Madonna’s tour this time around because guess what it is stopping in Australia where it has not covered since the Girlie Show. In a completely different event this week Kylie was threatened on her twitter account from a stalker. We are hoping the creeper got arrested or some kind of protection for our goddess. Kylie Minogue will be in Australia next month to appear at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

This Details issue hits stands nationwide on January 17 known as the February issue. Here are some highlights from Darren Criss’ “Last Call” column Q&A.

When asked about meeting Michelle Bachmann Criss said “I never let my politics supersede my manners. She came up with her husband and was sweet as can be. She was like, ‘My kids love the show. We always thought of Nick as our favorite BSB although not sure if hes hotter than Justin Timberlake who has always been the hottie of all boy bands. If you’re in the UK, there’s a chance that there are some really annoying TV shows that you just can’t get away from – in fact that’s probably true wherever you are! I swear, if I have to see an advert for Desperate Scousewives one more time my TV is going to suffer a fatal incident involving a cup of hot coffee dribbled down the back and a quick flight out of an open window!

But although I find a whole lot of those reality TV shows to be pretty repugnant, the upcoming Playing It Straight has to be one of those that really makes my blood boil.

Now, I have absolutely no doubt that there will be hoards of gay guys watching the show, mainly because it contains a whole lot of camp double entendre’s and a lot of barely clothed young men who are mostly gay but don’t act it. I have no problem with those little aspects of it, it’s the game show style of it that really annoys me.

For those who don’t get it, the set up is that there’s a relatively empty-headed young woman with far too much makeup and a love of all things expensive, trying to work out which of the guys she’s shacked up with is straight. As I understand it, there are eleven guys and Cara, some of the guys are gay, and some are straight (although you have to wonder just how many of those straight guys either lied to get on the show, or are actually bi)

Cara has to work out who is straight and who isn’t, through the use of some very humorous and humiliating games. She votes guys out, and if she picks a straight guy at the end they both win 25k. If she picks a gay guy who managed to “Play it Straight” convincingly enough, he walks away with the whole 50k.

Does all that sound like fun to you?

To me, it reeks of stereotyping, and is actually pretty offensive. The message seems to be that it is better for gay men to conform to masculine stereotypes. If you think I’m overreacting, imagine it in reverse. What if it were called “Playing it Gay” and the straight guys had to convince someone (and the audience) they they are actually gay. Cue camp walks and limp wrists, hours debating Kylie and moments of hasty simulated man sex in random places. Would we accept that as being okay?

I’m gonna climb up on my soapbox here and suggest that this kind of BS is not what people protested for. We’re doing a disservice to people who had absolutely no rights and fought for some semblance of equality by turning our lifestyles into a commodity that can be sold for the sake of some cheap laughs. These guys might have noble thoughts about what they’re taking part in, but in reality they’re selling out. Instead of making sexuality a non-issue (which is how things should be) they’re voluntarily allowing themselves to be bought as entertainment for a largely straight audience to mock and laugh at.

Now, I already have some pretty strong views on the likes of the X-Factor and all the other talent shows that are really nothing more than the public humiliating people who should probably be under the care of some psychology professionals, so it’s possibly not surprising that I find this to be not my cup of tea. But it does surprise me that there is an audience for such rubbish.

Instead of gaining equality for ourselves and getting the respect we deserve in society, some of us are happy to remain the subjects of ridicule, reminding everyone just how “different” gay people are from the rest.

One of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.

As if he already was not on the meat market. It seems the marriage between Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher has been on the rocks for months since she found out she had cheated on her. He may be regretting it now and wishing it was just a MTV Punk’d episode but then again he came out quite ahead in this. He is afterall one of the most popular people on Twitter and has landed Charlie Sheen’s old job of being a male chauvinistic pig. So is the divorce about the affair or the tweet that he messed up on the other day regarding the child molestation case at Penn State? Anyway here is some Ashton Kutcher semi-nude eye candy.

Are you ready for one of the most exciting movies coming to theaters this year at least for us gays? An icon indeed Marilyn Monroe. Thanksgiving week Michelle Williams stars as Marilyn Monroe from MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, which will be released in theaters on November 23rd by The Weinstein Company. On National Coming Out Day superstar Golden Girl Betty White was seen out and about at the Abbey in West Hollywood. Of course, this is not an unusual outing. Betty White is a regular at the Abbey bar. No wonder this place keeps getting voted one of the best bars in the World.

Dallas A-list that is Y’all. We could just call it Levi’s housewives with lots of Bible thumpin’ and Dallas stereotypes. First of all the show starts out with the main saying of Dallitude and has to go all cowboy on us with hats, boots, and some Rodeo in Mesquite. Well ok Dallas has some Dallitude but so does every city that is called Queens with cocktails or cliques Worldwide. Not just in Dallas. Yes, there are a lot of gay cowboys out there and many gay republicans but what is up with the over-doing it on the bibles and praying on the show. We hear that Ann Coulter is supposed to make an appearance to visit up with A-list cast member Taylor Garrett.

Now let’s talk about Taylor. He seemed kind of cute at first then he started sounding dumber and dumber with his George W. Bush talk. I can’t see the same sexual interest Levi Crocker would have in Taylor but maybe there is something down there we can’t find on TV. His gay girl friend Ashley seems to have made friends with everyone on the show. I have to wonder if she drinks or clubs?

One of my favorite parts of the show was when James Doyle was asked if he had sex with Levi before and he replied something similar to “we just exchanged fluids”. I also liked the hair scenes with Chase. I know what its like to have hair that changes and has its own mindset everyday and is unpredictable.

Parts of the show were strangely nothing like living in Dallas it is not that Baptist on the gay side of life. Remember we are the ones that have the so-called “Christians” outside our clubs still haunting us and stalking us to “make a change” and join their team against how we were born. They are out there with their hate singing and trying to shove the bible in our faces right there at Throckmorton and Cedar Springs every weekend. The show is a bit too focused on making us look like Southern Baptists here in Big D.

I feel that Chase has that draw to be an oil tycoon on a real Dallas show. His voice is kind of Scott McQueery in its uniqueness but so much accent. He has hot legs though and some fun, wild hair. Levi is more the star of the show at least from the first episode. Levi and James are definitely the more outspoken ones on the show but the real troublemaker seems to be Phillip Willis. Phillip Willis is welcomed as the first black man to the A-list series but may end up being the most drama (but isn’t that what reality TV is about). The girl on the show Ashley is not the first girl since A-List NYC had Nyasha.

So you ask who was Krystal the girl shown a few times at the Rodeo and at dinner with James? That would be Krystal Summers who stars in a movie Trannies with Knives and is one of the headlining drag queens at the Rose Room inside Station 4 of Dallas. You will most likely see more of her as the series goes on with the summer of 2011.

There will probably be more haters of the show than anything especially with Ann Coulter appearing on the show in an upcoming episode but it’s really not too bad. While the show really does not portray Dallas 100% as it should be from our gay scene it will most likely do a better job in upcoming episodes. There is always jealousy and the feeling of wanting to be with that boy who never really liked you back and I think we could all feel for James in that part. Levi is supposed to be the Reichen of the show with more of the jock and player character. It will be interesting to see what the next episode brings and if they stir enough drama to bring back another season. It comes on next week at a better time which is definitely a better thing since us Dallas Baptists have to be in bed around 9pm… we have bibles to read at 8pm. Yee-haw!

We clicked on an article on the NyPost.com today and noticed that LOGO is promoting the A-list Dallas on all of their entertainment pages. With all of this promotion from LOGO and all of the hype this show better be worth watching at 10pm central tonight. We will see. The show follows a reunion show for A-List NYC then the alums come back to the Dallas show afterwards to break us into the new cast. We are curious as to why the show comes on so late at the 10 and 11pm time slots… strange. Review to come tomorrow!

It seems that Dallas, Texas is the place to be, that is if you are judging by the sheer number of reality shows based there. If you are looking to watch the glitz, glamour, and do not forget the drama, of other peoples lives, apparently you need look no further than Dallas.

Bravo has the reality show Most Eligible Dallas. This show follows a group of young, successful, and single friends, throughout their lives. You have beauty queens and pro football players, and everyone is looking for love. Meet Courtney Kerr, the 29 year old who works in the fashion industry, and is best friends with Matt. She is outspoken and career driven. She wants nothing more than to be a good wife and mother, but cannot seem to find Mr. Right. Her best friend Matt Nordgren is the 28 year old ex former college Quarterback who now works in the family business. He is a serial dater, and Courtney is always quick to find flaw with his many woman friends. Enter 23-year-old aspiring singer Neill Skylar. Neill is the single mother to a one year old and she and Matt quickly develop feelings for each other, a fact that does not sit well with best friend Courtney. You can see where this is going, and these are just three of the characters on this popular reality series.

Logo is launching The A-List Dallas, which is premiering on October 10. Now this show follows a group of five gay men and their girl pal Ashley, and you can be sure there will be some truly outrageous drama unfolding on this reality show. The Logo website hilariously calls the show “Housewives with Balls”. You have James, who is your party guy and serial dater, every show has one. He comes from money, so work is optional, and he opts not to. Levi is your past rodeo star who now works for the family business, and has launched a line of swimwear for gay men. Taylor is the Christian gay republican, and Chase has the career in finance, and is looking for Mr. Right. Phillip is the one you do not want to cross because he knows everyone’s secrets. This show is sure to be entertaining, and sure to have everyone talking.

Big Rich Texas on mystyle follows a group of successful Dallas mothers and their daughters. This elite group of women has careers ranging from the marketing executive, to the runway model. Each woman is career driven and passionate, and tries to pass that knowledge on to the group of four daughters on the show. The daughters range in age from 15-22.

Not to be outdone by the reality shows, TNT is bringing back the hit soap opera style drama, Dallas. Dallas first aired back in 1978, and was a hit for thirteen years. It featured the Ewing family, and dealt with wealthy Texas oil millionaires. The show was so popular, if you ask anyone where they where during the airing of The Who Shot J.R. episode, the answer is sure to be in front of the television. It is still one of the most watched episodes of all time. Staying true to the soap opera format, the show had a lot cheating, backstabbing, divorcing, and fighting, and the spin-off will be sure to have more of the same. The show is set to air summer 2012, and with stars like Jesse Metcalfe, and Jordana Brewster, the show is sure to be a hit.

It is apparent that Dallas has all the fun, and all the drama, glitz, glamour, and love.

Dancing With the Stars is making its awaited return, following in the footsteps of some other shows in a similar vein and becoming a little more risky too.

It should be said here that I don’t watch these shows. There’s something about them that unsettles me. It seems as if media is forever being watered-down, designed for the brain-dead. And I have to say that I view all of these shows in a similar way. I know, I know, I’m being too judgmental, but I can’t help it. I feel as though I should say that some of my closest friends watch these shows! :)

But I was interested to see the news that Chaz Bono is to appear in the new season of Dancing With the Stars, and – I believe – not for the reasons that you might expect either!

While commentators in the equality movement are praising it as a great move by the producers, and while I’m sure many in the transgender community are celebrating some recognition in mainstream media, is anyone stopping to think about why this is being done and what the ultimate results could be?

Chaz himself has stated that he believes it’s a good opportunity to show the world that transgender people are normal, everyday, fun and interesting people. And while I agree that these messages need to be made clear throughout media, I have to question if this is the right format for it or if the hearts and minds of all those involved are in the right place.

In 2004 the UK saw transgender reality TV star Nadia Almada successfully win the Big Brother show, going on to appear in the US version a year later. While she was an incredible hit in the UK, with viewers loving her witty and honest attitude to life, the press were initially far from favorable. In fact, many only came around to acknowledging her a valid competitor when they realized they were loosing track of public sentiment.

Some of the trash they printed about her was pretty horrific, with those opposed to anything LGBT-related in vociferous uproar at every opportunity. And I hate to have to point this out, but America is certainly behind the UK when it comes to the acceptance of gender diversity.

As if the addition of Chaz into the show was not enough, they’re also inviting fashion guru Carson Kressley to take part too. Can the religious right survive such a thing without their heads simultaneously exploding all over the country?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting for one minute that this should be reconsidered or abandoned, I’m just suggesting that perhaps people still have a rose-tinted view of the media that we feed off of. This is not a move by a studio to be “inclusive” and support the sexuality and gender equality movement. This is a studio knowing that they have to create more drama to compete with other shows who do it better. And if we admit for just a second that this could indeed be the case, what lengths would they go to during the show to create more drama and secure those ratings?

It’s all about mixing high-drama in there, and people are used as props to do it. They know very well that masses of wordage will be espoused through every media outlet discussing the “abhorrent” and “influential” effect such a show might be having on the youth of today, and they’ll use that to boost their ratings.

But, there is the other side of the coin too. Perhaps this could be used as intended and real progress actually be made? Maybe Chaz knows very well what the motives are and intends to carry himself with such charm and poise as to completely disarm the cretins I believe have some interesting twists planned?

I guess we won’t know until we see the story unfolding…

I have no doubt that you’ve heard the news already. Of course, something like this travels fast across the tangled web of the Internet. Twitter lights up with fans expressing their grief, Facebook goes into overdrive with fan pages and memorials, bloggers start tapping away with gushing emotion… And I join the outpouring.

I hope you like metaphorical posts, because that’s the way I plan to do this.

I was a little late to the Winehouse party. A good friend of mine who knows I love house parties invited me along, suggesting that the music was something a little different, and that people really loved it.

So while I don’t normally like that kind of popular music, I was actually really impressed to hear it when I got there. It was a great mix of blues, soul and jazz with a modern twist, and I found myself dancing along to it. It was a really great house, quite beautiful. The whole place was packed with original style and the owner seemed to have a lot of pride in the place.

It was packed with all kinds of people, old and young, alternative and mainstream. I guess I was having a great time for the first hour or so, meeting new people and checking the place out. But then I started to look around and realized that something wasn’t quite right.

There were a couple of kids throwing up on the balcony. When I went to the bathroom I squeezed past a stumbling young guy to get in and there was a sheen of white powder across the wash basin. In the hall a couple were getting far too friendly while others walked around them. Outside the front door a young couple were screaming at each other, yelling obscenities and slapping each other while the neighbors looked on in disgust.

Then something happened to the CD player, and the music started to jump. It sounded so terrible and everyone who had been dancing and having a great time gave up and took a seat. A few people tried to fix it, but after another hour it was obvious that whatever they were doing was just making it worse. It was really bad, you couldn’t understand the lyrics and although the music seemed to make sense, the energy had gone.

People started to leave. Every time another bottle smashed or another person fell unconscious the numbers thinned out. But a few stuck around and kept on listening to the stereo even though the music was impossible to appreciate. I guess they’d never heard such music before and were not quite ready to let it go just yet.

That’s when I left. I had the music playing in my head, and I really didn’t want to ruin what had otherwise been a good night. It was so sad to see the house being trashed in front of me and hear that music becoming nothing more than a horrid noise.

What had been a beautiful home had become little more than a crack house. There were a few people who were trying to stop the destruction, but it seemed futile. As I walked out the door I knew the party would be raided and closed down pretty soon, and I didn’t want to be there. Plenty of people I talked to as we were leaving thought the house might even be totally destroyed; it was so out of control it was more like a riot than a party.

In conclusion, the party started great. But soon it became clear that it was out of control. I think we all knew that it would end in a mess, we just hoped that maybe it would calm down and could carry on.

Ultimately, Amy Winehouse was an adult, capable of making her own decisions and responsible for her own health. While it is probably right to feel sad that such talent was lost, do we celebrate recklessness and addiction in any other aspect of life? I believe we should mourn, but with a certain perspective – just as we mourned the death of Kurt Cobain, River Phoenix or Marilyn Monroe.

What a tumultuous few days it’s been for the current “Queen of Pop”. As if her punishing schedule of promotional appearances and interviews in Japan were not enough, she now has to deal with accusations attacking her integrity, and a potential lawsuit.

It’s no wonder the 25 year old superstar was caught balling at the MTV Video Music Aid Japan event, organized to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross in the wake of the catastrophic Earthquake and Tsunami which rocked both the country and the global attitude to Nuclear energy.

It has to be said that the lovely Gaga was not in fact weeping at the thought of being sued, she was in fact discussing the tragic loss of life caused by the disaster, and begging the people of the world to support the beautiful country through much-needed tourism.

Why is she being sued? It seems that a gentleman by the name of Ari Kresch, from a Michigan-based law practice has been denied access to Lady GaGa’s financial records. Oh, yes, that’s shocking isn’t it, apparently we can’t just call up demanding to see the personal and professional finances of our favorite celebrity whenever we want!

Who’d have thunk it!

On the day of the disaster, the Gaga team (does she have a team? I’m guessing so) immediately started work on the project, designing and selling charitable wristbands for all of her Little Monsters to wear in support of her beloved Japanese fans. And it seems to have raised a considerable chunk of money too, adding to what Lady Gaga herself has donated to the cause.

So, despite the fact that Gaga is worth countless millions, and is possibly already one of the most wealthy women in music, and despite the fact that she donated several million dollars to charity following the disaster, this lawyer thinks that she might have been pocketing some of the cash from the sale of charitable wristbands through her site, rather than donating the money.

Yes, that really sounds like the actions of a woman who already donated plenty of cash from her personal fortune, and a woman who routinely becomes emotional when talking about Human rights and Humanitarian causes!

Okay, if you cant sense my sarcasm at various points throughout this post just let me know and I’ll come back in to highlight the relevant lines ;)

What do I think? I think the guy should consider going after some of the real criminals in the world, instead of attacking a celebrity in an effort to grab some publicity, because with all the corruption and greed out there, perpetrated by some insanely huge corporations, I fail to see why Gaga would be a logical choice for any other reason than gaining notoriety.

I could of course be wrong, but I doubt it.

Now I suspect Arachnophiles out there will be wondering where the Tarantula makes an entrance to this post. The piano on stage at the recent Tokyo performance was “disguised” as a Tarantula. Just an interesting thing to note!

We all have had a Bad Teacher now and then especially those substitute teachers. But who could be badder teaches than these folks?

Bad Teacher premiered at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City last night, and stars Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Jason Segel, Lucy Punch and additional cast members were in attendance. Could it be the next huge celeb battle since Jen V’s Angelina? Okay, no it probably won’t be. But since the catastrophe that was Cheryl Cole’s move to the US, things are still not calming down in the controversial world of the international business that is the X-Factor.

Personally, I can’t stand the whole circus, it’s like a freak show with a baying crowd of rabid village idiots fawning over mediocre talent or mocking the mentally disabled. At least that’s my take on it, but I haven’t seen much.

But the surrounding controversy and hilarity is what really interests me. They should do away with all the ridicule and humiliation of people who probably need full-time care, and just focus on the drama of the over-primed, over-pumped and over-paid pseudo-stars behaving like Emperor Nero.

Thumbs down to you Simon!

So for those who do not know the whole story (and I only know bits of it), high-trousered and camp-speaking Cowell (maybe he talks like that because his pants are squeezing his nuts too hard?) decided in all his infinite wisdom, that America needed the gloriously beautiful – albeit slightly dialectically challenged – Cheryl Cole to fly over the the USA and introduce the public to a language they’d never heard before (hey dude, is she talkin’ French?)

And as you’d expect, her slightly brash and stronger-than-Tetley-tea accent sent every American reaching for the remote. Not for the caption button, but to switch to some other channel featuring overly-pretty and ridiculously impossible characters.

That just won’t do for the heads of the channel, and it seems that this time Simon couldn’t use his pop hammer of doom to persuade them to reconsider. So she was shipped off, presumably back to her home town where people actually understand her.

But that’s not the end of the story. Recently Tulisa Contostavlos (don’t worry, I don’t know either) took Cheryl’s place on the hit show during auditions (read humiliation extravaganza) for the new series in Manchester England. And it seems that in an effort to get her name on the venomous lips of X-Factor fans everywhere she arrived with a sharp tongue and an overly honest opinion. That’s right, get the audience to hate you by being a bitch, isn’t that the way to make money these days?

You can guess what happens next can’t you? The audience fell for it hook, line and sinker, and to calls of “Bring back Cheryl” Tulisa’s steely facade fell to the floor faster than I would in a college locker room. She allegedly ran from the scene in floods of tears wondering why her snide comments hadn’t made her some kind of lovable Cruella De Ville “You Beasts!”

Aside from that, they need a little more drama don’t they! So lets throw in some additional rumor and speculation from anonymous sources (probably some guy in the press room of a trash mag who wants to feel more important). Apparently young Cruella… sorry, Tulisa, is staying up and having little parties before turning up with a hangover. But then she’s only young, and partying is what these people do best I suppose. They need to be good at something though, right?

So that’s the story so far, I guess there’ll be plenty more to come. Some of it will be blatant BS, and some of it might actually be funny. But while I won’t watch the show, I’ll probably keep up to speed with the surrounding drama and PR stuntage, We all need a little entertainment, it’s a shame the folks at the X-Factor don’t know that… or perhaps they do?

X-Factor auditions are hitting Dallas, TX right now and more than 10,000 people are trying out. This is Simon Cowell’s new contest that is almost guaranteed to make you a star. The contract is for $5 Million once you become a star from this show and can be to anyone 12 or older as a solo or group. Another thing different from American Idol and X-Factor is that the judges such as Simon do more mentoring than critiquing. But the more I hear about this show I think of how similar it is to the Voice. How many of these are we going to have?

What is going on with Cheryl Cole though? I really wanted to see her on the X-Factor US version.

Scotty McQueery (well we wished) is the winner of American Idol. Seriously though it was a sucky season 10 this year. We were TEAM SCOTTY only tonight but also TEAM LAUREN because she made it even with her voice going out but neither impressed last night. Scotty though is one-dimensional, looks like George W. Bush, Howdy Doody and Alfred E. newman put together but he can sing. At least some small niche will enjoy his deep voice and holding the mic like a rap star instead of a country singer. We enjoyed J_Lo or other wise known as Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler as the judges but they were not as hard on the talent as they should have been. This is why the final episodes did not match up to last years with Simon’s critical help. The Final show had performances from Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Gladys, Carrie, McGraw, Mr. Jones, Mr. Bennett…too bad we had to wade thru IDOL for all this.

122 Million votes were cast last night which was 2 votes for every man woman and child living in America. It seems lots of teeny booper girls texted their votes in because I can’t Imagine how other way the cutesy Scotty could have won. His voice is way too deep to be an American Idol and the girl just did not have too much going for her not like Haley. American Idol just does not stack up to the Voice this year.. so on to the Voice and the X-Factor we go. American Idol will be forgotten soon enough!

In Film screenings this week Focus Features held a special screening of Beginners at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York. In attendance were stars Ewan McGregor, Mélanie Laurent and Christopher Plummer, as well as writer/director Mike Mills. Other guests included Julianna Margulies, Samantha Mathis, Justin Vivian Bond, Caroline Reid and Miranda July. Caroline Reid also known as our beloved comedian Pam Ann.

Beginners opens in select cities on June 3rd. This film is based on writer/director Mike Mills’ real-life relationship with his father, who came out as a gay man late in life.

Following on from the last post focusing on camping, I thought it might be fun to explore the preparation for the coming festival-packed summer of fun ahead.

Whether you’re a camping enthusiast the rest of the year or prefer your breaks with a little more luxury, many of us venture out under canvas for at least a few nights in the summer when miniature cities spring up all over the country for a weekend of live music.

But of course, it’s not all about camping. There’s plenty more to consider before loading up your car and heading out hoping to relive your parents’ Woodstock stories – though perhaps with a little less chemical enhancement!

The necessities

There are a few things that we all absolutely need when we’re considering camping in a field with a few thousand other revelers, and they’re not your hair curlers or your laptop.

• Condoms. Yes, it’s shocking, thousands of people at festivals hook up, and many go tent-hopping for the weekend. You don’t want to be caught in that predicament of really wanting that boink but having to go hunting around the festival shops at 3am looking a box of rubbers.

• Wipes. Not all festivals have showers on site, and even when they are offered they are often out of order, very limited or far too busy. Having some damp wipes to give yourself a quick bath in your tent is preferable to having everyone around you asking what that smell is.

• Antihistamines. Most of us travel a few miles out of town to go to these events, and some of us even leave the country for a really good festival. While you might not have allergy symptoms at home, going to a new area with different plant life and possibly even a completely different climate can often surprise you with allergic reactions. Not everyone needs it, just ensure one person in your group has some.

• Sun Block. It might seem obvious, but plenty of people forget it, or think they’ll get it when they arrive. The next thing they know they’re waking up after their first afternoon drinking session of the festival severely burned and unable to move.

• Duct Tape. This is a lifesaver for those who unpack their tent to find a mouse has used a corner of it to raise their young, or when they poke one of the poles through the canvas in a drunken rage of ineptitude. Once that tent has a hole, you will be waking up either damp with dew or drowning after a sudden shower. A little duct tape is all that’s needed to make it good for the rest of the trip.

• Tissue/Toilet Paper. This stuff is like gold at a festival. Sellers know people need it and will charge extortionate prices if they have the chance. Make sure your group has enough to last you.

• Energy Sweets. Many festivals now give these out completely free in the UK, because they know that after a day or two people tend to start skipping bands and sticking by the tent while they recover from the night before. These little sweets can be all you need to get that energy back and get into the mood again.

• Cash. Even if the festival has a cashless system, you never know what might happen. You need to make sure you have enough cash to be able to travel at least a few miles to civilization if you absolutely have to.

Veterans advice

As someone who has been festivalling for more than nine years, I do feel like a bit of a veteran, and there are a few things I have picked up along the way which might be of use to the festival noob.

• Bandanna. If you have ever used a toilet at a festival you will probably know this little tip. If you have a bandanna or scarf, spray a little deodorant on it and cover your face before you enter that “pit of doom” and you’ll save yourself from either passing out through holding your breath, or passing out thinking about what travels with smells. Thankfully, the Victorians worked out that smells don’t generally make you ill. But it took them a while and we’re still not totally there.

• Valuables. Most festivals now offer a locker for a small fee. This is great, but it would be better if people didn’t bring expensive gadgets to show off. What do you need an iPhone for when a cheap disposable phone does the same? When sleeping, put all valuables inside the bottom of your sleeping bag, and make sure anyone you invite into your tent isn’t able to take any souvenirs with them when they leave. But maybe give them some underwear to remember you by if you’re that nice :)

• Sex. Perhaps not surprisingly, most people are open to experimenting at festivals. While you could join festival websites and meet other gay attendees you could visit with on site, you’d actually not have that much of a difficult time hitting on random people. Most won’t immediately be uninterested, if only because they feel they SHOULD be more daring. They might be straight or only slightly, privately, curious in their everyday life, but at a festival something strange happens and horniness often takes over.

• Neighbors. I have met so many fantastic and interesting people at festivals. The people who are camping around you are not just people, they are your neighbors if even for a short time. And you’re at the same event, so chances are good that you have a lot in common. Get to know them on the first day and you’ll probably find you have a very large crowd of fantastically funny people to party with for the entire stay.

Gay or straight, the festival experience is an amazing one, full of fun and excitement and new experiences. All it takes is a little common sense, an attitude of adventure and some incredible weekends can be had as a result. The summer is a time to get out there and enjoy everything there is for life to offer. Enjoy it, because very soon the snow and ice will return and we’ll all be locked up inside by the fire once again, dreaming of what we’ll do when the sun comes back.

Now the “Glee” star and Mercury Records artist Matthew Morrison has since premiered his debut single, “Summer Rain” on American Idol host Ryan Seacrest’s nationally syndicated morning radio show on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. The official launch for “Summer Rain” at radio is scheduled for March 14th. And Matthew will perform “Summer Rain” live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on April 6th; and on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 11th. “Summer Rain” was co-written by Matthew with Claude Kelly (Bruno Mars, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, to name a a few) and the Norwegian duo known as Espionage, who produced the track in New York City. Espionage (Espen Lind and Amund Bjørklund), are respected for their work with Train (this year’s Grammy Award-winning “Hey, Soul Sister,” iTunes’ top-selling song of 2010) and many others. “Summer Rain” is the first track from Morrison’s upcoming debut album, set for May 10th release.

Matthew Morrison is best known to millions as the eternally optimistic high school teacher and glee club director – Will Schuester, on the FOX television network’s runaway hit comedy series “Glee.” The show ranks as the #1 entertainment program on broadcast television among Adults 18-34, Teens and Female Teens. Probably #1 among GLBTQ since we seem to be addicted to this tear jerking and fun show. Even some of the music videos make it over to the LOGO channel.

Morrison has been nominated for Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe awards, and shared the 2009 SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Award for Best Performance by an Ensemble in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical, for “Glee.”

Morrison is no virgin to musical theatre, vocal performance and dance, which he studied at New York University’s renowned Tisch School of the Arts. His first big Broadway break came as heartthrob Link Larkin in the hit Hairspray. Morrison was later nominated for a Tony Award for his role in The Light in the Piazza. He received a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for 10 Million Miles and also starred in the Tony Award-winning revival of South Pacific at New York’s Lincoln Center Theater.

It looks like a typical or shall we say stereo typical gay Sunday brunch outside with two guys lounging by the pool grubbing on Doritos brand chips. Lets not forget that the chips are not your typical Doritos they are gay Salsa Verde in a pink fabulous bowl and Margarita’s with straws of course. The gay guys in this commercial with their legs crossed and cut off jean short shorts look like they are in a George Michael ‘Faith’ video from the early 90s. I am just not sure if i know any gay guys that wear jean short shorts I would see it better with them wearing Andrew Christian or Aussie Bums. And where are the Prada or Gucci sunglasses? Really two gays in the backyard and no designer sunglasses?

As for the peeping Tom or George whatever his name is in the flannel I assume he is the in the closet gardening husband at least according to the mmm hmm remark made by that gorgeous man crunching on Doritos. The wifey comes out there while he is pruning and starring into the big pink Doritos bowl fantasizing about them being in his mouth so he can get his wet lips around them. Although in those shots it shows the tanned legs of the guy in the backyard while he is grabbing for the chips.

This may be a little too gay for the Superbowl Demographic. I am sure this will cause a stir if it is aired like the Doritos commercial that was going to air that involved a Catholic priest. Judging from the things I have heard going on in Dallas this year at the Superbowl it could be the gayest Superbowl yet.

The former CEO of IAC recently resigned so that the Match.com CEO could take over the business and get things moving more aggressively but before all of this happened Barry has been having some fun with the boys. You have to hand it to Mr. Diller that being on top of the world is not just being the boss man at Match, Ask.com, Excite, Vimeo, ServiceMagic, The Daily Beast, CitySerach, Reference.com, and College Humor. He likes to hang with the hottest of the A-list and have some fun with the boys. Move over Hugh Hefner we have Barry Diller.

We have went through our most popular gay blog posts of 2010 and they range from fun shirtless type topics to topics that really broke our heart. This was a year that really had its ups and downs but mostly downs when it came to the GLBT community. We can try and stay positive all we want but it was so heartbreaking to see teen suicides and legislation such as DADT not being ended. Gay Marriage still has not taken off here in the United States but there is light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to some of the polling with how America feels when it comes to gays. They hate us less and less at least we can hope.

The A-List NYC took off on the LOGO channel because I guess they could not bring us another Queer As Folk for some reason. Viacom we love but they really need to look into a scripted show that brings us together more as a community such as QAF. We would have Sunday and Wednesday night gatherings to watch QAF and it’s too bad the network did not show us something more.

Favorite movie of the year was Burlesque with Chrstina and Cher. I never knew what air space was until I watched the movie. So it was a learning experience besides Cher made me cry with her ‘Last of Me’ moment in the movie and Christina got to seduce one of the hottest guys on the planet Cam Gigandet.

We could not have a LGBT blog without mentioning Cynthia Nixon from Sex in The City… another hot movie of 2010.

The red carpet has been busy this week with all these movie premieres. Who would have thought that Matthew Morrison had such hot abs. Burlesque had its world premiere in Hollywood at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre last night and you know we are excited for this movie to finally come out! Lil’ Wayne is bending over for a police officer over a car and this is a condom ad? The strange thing he is not in uniform and Lil’ Wayne maybe preparing for his jail sentence with condoms? On a serious note, I do not see the point of him bending over a police car for a condom ad since he is not gay and makes no sense. You talk about ads that have some hidden meaning in them but I am not sure what to think about this one.

Lil’ Wayne is the perfect candidate for a brand of condoms though but you would think he would show a pic of him strapped by some blond patrol officer instead. LOGO has a new series with some gay men this time and they are fighting it out like Desperate Housewives. It seems they have all dated someone who has dated someone who knows one of them and all on the A-list or at least have been formerly on the spotlight. Austin Armacost, 22, model, and former boyfriend of Marc Jabobs is originally from Indiana which is where I would go to hunt for models. There are some hot boys from there but he also modeled in LA and then got away in London, UK for awhile now hes back in NYC on the A-List on LOGO. Listen up LOGO Channel why can’t we have our Queer As Folk back. It was the best GLBT show ever and with things going on lately with all the gay bullying why not have a show like this. It’s time to bring back Queer as Folk and the gang.

MTV is busy playing on Twitter and Facebook games with the tweens this year and dreaming they could be the shadow of Justin Bieber on Youtube. The network now known for 16 year old pregnancies is wanting everyone to check-in to STD clinics and get a virtual badge throughout September at these places. Really? A happy face sticker on my online Foursquare application for checking in to a STD clinic. What does MTV gain of people lined up at STD clinics anyway? Do they play MTV soap operas while waiting for results of chlamydia tests?

What the network should be focusing on this year are what no one is talking about right now the VMA’s coming in under a few weeks from LA’s Nokia Theater. They really sound lame this year because there is no major headliner or opening act and no big celeb deaths like Michael Jackson to draw the interest. Maybe too many celebs testing for the Clap? j/k.

But no Madonna, no Britney Spears, no Lady Gaga performances. Lame. Is this going to be a cheesy bubble explosion of Katy Perry coming out of icing with Jack Black peeing on a rainbow that ends with Kanye West and Taylor Swift jumping around like Glee lovers holding hands into eternity? Lady Gaga will probably be the most talked about thing at the show but how many outfits will she be putting on just to get up and accept awards all night long. We wanted to hear her perform at least!

Their focus of silly foursquare check-ins such as Facebook wanting to get into the location business instead of its core business will make these companies finally see this bubble bursting when people laugh and start hiding check-ins or use them for blackmail purposes. Hopefully someday MTV will focus on their music or at least more of the drama as Justin Timberlake begged the network to do a few years ago..

My predictions for 2010 for the MTV VMAs are that it could turn out to be the lamest in years. Last years from NYC Radio City Music Hall will be hard to top with Madonna, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, and the list goes on. They would have to at least have a SURPRISE appearance from Britney Spears to come close to last years and normally their LA version of the show sucks anyway but then again they could run an skit of Britney Spears checking into a STD clinic via their ridiculous Four Square App right? or have Lindsey Lohan appear which I am sure they will do anyway before she goes back to rehab.

I wrote a song once, or co-wrote it if I am to be completely truthful. It was a cabaret number, a comedy song and a list song. There are only two kinds of songs, should you be interested to know, and these are ‘lists’ and ‘stories’. Think of any song and you will be able to put it into one of those two categories, honestly. But I am already straying from the point.

The point of mentioning that song was to bring in its subject matter which was, famous gay people of history. I am sure my co-writer would not mind me sharing some of the lyrics (in italics) with you as I run through some of the more unexpected gay people from the past.

There is often doubt over far back historical characters and their sexuality. Examples:

‘Frederick the Great, Peter the Great, Alexander the Great, not one of them straight.’

And sometimes there is room for a lot of speculation. I just checked out a list on a site and it has Saladin the Sultan of Egypt and Syria listed as a famous gay man. Famous for sure, but how do they know? Where’s the evidence? The site did have a list of sources actually, but my point here is that history can quickly become myth, so to say for 100% certainty that, for example, Alexander was gay, is to make assumptions based on ancient chatter. To be certain or our famous GLB folk we need to be more up to date:

‘Herman Melville, and Marcel Proust – and all the boys that Hadrian the first seduced.’

I know Hadrian wasn’t that recent, but it’s a fun rhyme for Proust who, let’s face it, could do with some jollying up. Also on the list was Cole Porter, no surprises there except he was also married, but that’s what some gay men did in those days, and perhaps he really was bisexual. (And, as an aside, if you want clear examples of list and story songs then look at Cole Porter, the master of the list song: Let’s do it, You’re the top, I get a kick out of you, and more or less anything from Anything Goes.)

‘Kenneth Anger loved the men he’d fetter, David Hockney likes his men much wetter.’

Also on that site and its list were Andy Warhol, Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde, and you are probably not surprised to see these great people listed. But what about some of the others?

‘Edward the second, Richard the Second, James the first, it’s been reckoned.’

Pope Julius III (1550 – 1555), Marie Antoinette, Pope Benedict IX (1032 – 1044), Pope John XII (655 – 964), the list goes on, and is not restricted to Popes or aristocracy who lost their heads.

‘There’s William Shakespeare, and Marlow too, and Sophocles, Euripides to name a few.’

But what I did notice from this list, and the list we came up with for our song, is how many talented people there were. Of course there is no reason why GLB folk should not be talented, I didn’t mean it like that, and there are thousands of talented straight people from history, but some of the greats are here – I mean the really greats. From Alexander and the others who were actually called ‘Great’ to the painter of the Sistine chapel, Michelangelo, the inventor of economic theories in the 20th century, John Maynard Keyes and the inventor of just about everything else, Leonardo de Vinci.

And who can forget Divine? That’s what John Waters taught us…’

So it seems to me, that whatever way you look at it, being gay means that you are in good company. Such good company that it makes you wonder who the straight folk have to be proud of.

Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charlotte return to theaters on May 27, 2010 with another installment in the story of Sex and the City. Across the country, fans are anxiously awaiting the new film and a new adventure for the four friends. As Miranda Hobbes, Cynthia Nixon created a driven, determined, high strung and defensive New York lawyer, struggling with single motherhood and relationships. The real Nixon’s life is much less dramatic than Miranda’s, but no less busy as she balances parenting two children, work, and activism.

Nixon’s career began at age 12 with a role in Little Darlings, and by 18 she had roles in two Broadway plays simultaneously. She was a successful New York actress, but HBO’s Sex and the City catapulted her into stardom. Since the series ended, Nixon has taken a variety of roles, including Eleanor Roosevelt in HBO’s Warm Spring and a frazzled mother navigating a child with ADD. She has worked on both theater and film projects since the end of the series, choosing roles that offer both a challenge and a distinctly different character than Miranda.

In 2004, the New York Daily Post and New York Daily News outed the New York actress. With grace, she maintained her privacy but didn’t hide her relationship, taking the scandal out of her outing. Nixon’s partner, Christina Marinoni, is a community organizer in New York City. Nixon and Marinoni are raising Nixon’s two children, and while she is an involved parent, she does cheerfully celebrate the benefits of having four parents available.

Activism and advocacy work plays an important role in Nixon’s life. After battling breast cancer in 2006, she remains active with the Susan G. Komen foundation. Cynthia Nixon’s children attend New York public schools, and she works to support the schools, ensure adequate funding, and provide for teachers. In the last two year’s Nixon has taken an active role speaking out on gay and lesbian issues, including marriage and adoption. As of May 2009, Nixon and Marinoni are engaged to be married. Cynthia Nixon received an honorary award for her work on gay and lesbian civil rights issues from GLAAD in March of 2010.

The follow-up to the first hugely successful “Sex and the City” soundtrack, which debuted on Billboard’s Soundtrack chart at number one and its Top 200 chart at number two, will feature an exciting lineup that includes several platinum artists and consists of 17 songs. The announcement was made today by WaterTower’s Jason Linn.

Some shows spark conversation, blogs and water cooler discussions, and Glee is most definitely one of those. Last October, Madonna, as entranced by the charm of singing high school misfits, granted music rights to her songs to the series for an all-Madonna episode. This episode aired on April 20, 2010, once again showing us that Glee is willing to tackle the hard issues, including teenage sexuality, in a playful and whimsical way. The message behind this episode? Woman (or girl) power, at least in theory. Like a Prayer, Express Yourself, and, of course, Like a Virgin all were key numbers in the long-awaited Madonna episode.

So, the boys realize that the girls deserve more respect than they’re getting with prodding from Will, Sue does Vogue, Tina stands up for herself and Rachel, Finn, and Emma all wrestle with issues surrounding sex. Jesse pressures Rachel and she eventually says no. Santana pressures Finn and he says yes. Emma tries, and finally says no…all choreographed to Like a Virgin. More interestingly, Rachel claims she did and Finn claims he didn’t. Will tells Emma she needs to get help and he needs to get a divorce. Finn and Mercedes join the Cheerios to take starring roles they don’t necessarily get in New Directions, convincing Sue simply with “Mercedes is black. I’m gay. We make culture.” Sue tells us that Madonna is all about power, and Rachel, Emma and Santana all take their own, as do Mercedes and Kurt in their own way.

There’s no discussion of Glee without a discussion of being gay on Glee. While Madonna is certainly an icon in the gay community, Kurt plays a minor role in this episode. It seems likely we’ll see a much more Kurt-centered episode when it’s Lady Gaga’s turn on Glee. While Kurt is the only openly gay character on the show, we’ve seen multiple references to bisexuality on the part of both Santana and Brittany. The two girls offer to let Finn watch them make out and in an earlier episode, they casually mention having had sex. Fox’s official Glee Wiki lists the two as “Best Friends. With Benefits.” There’s certainly no arguing that Glee plays with stereotypes, allowing characters to be weak, flawed, and very human, whether they’re gay, straight or bisexual.

Where are you on Wednesday nights? For many people, the answer has become McKinley High. Fox’s Glee tells the stories of a high school vocal choir. This quirky mixture of social outcasts and popular kids has sung and danced its way into the hearts of viewers everywhere. At first glance, the characters can seem stereotypes, but well crafted personalities and relationships have created individuals we can love and despise. In a television world with only a few gay characters, most minor, Glee offers us a key character who is openly gay and features a gay couple as one of the few intact families mentioned.

While the glee club at McKinley high is a mishmash of minorities, one of the major characters on this show is a young man, Kurt Hummel played by 19 year old actor Chris Colfer. While, on the surface, Kurt is a stereotype in search of a day spa to recover from a face full of slushie and looking for knee length cardigans, he’s also won the football game for the school and stepped boldly out of the closet to his friends and single father. He’s bullied by the jocks, but willing to stand up for his friends. The episode all viewers will associate with Kurt boldly featured him singing Beyonce’s “Put a Ring on It,” complete with dance number as he won the big game for the football team. His father, dressed in flannel, cheers. His coming out is met with a quip about sensible pumps, a hug. Chris Colfer made us laugh and cry as Kurt triumphed for his school, bringing glory to all those who took too much crap in high school.

Critics have argued that Glee offers up discrimination. We see Kurt thrown into the dumpster, gay parents criticized for encouraging rebellion, and an expectation that an artistic father will produce a gay son. There’s no doubt at all that we see bullying, homophobia and discrimination in McKinley High. The jocks have to find themselves and learn that they were wrong as the gay kid brings the losing football team victory and they themselves sing and dance on the field to throw the other team off their game. Cheer coach Sue Sylvester is the clear villain of this show. Her comment about gay parents fits in with her suggestions that students be caned and her willing manipulation of students and staff.

High school wasn’t a picnic for most of us, gay or straight. It’s not for the kids in Glee either, as they deal with bullying, pregnancy, sexuality, friendship and competition.

In a saturated and sometimes boring late night TV market, Wanda Sykes’ new show, premiering November 7th, will offer a fresh take on current events as well as Wanda’s wit, style and personality. Airing on Saturday nights on Fox, the show will feature panel discussions with recurring personalities and lively discussion of topical issues. Sykes will leave the studio for field reports, adding variety to the late night comedy show. While the promos for Sykes’ new show joke about DVRs, you should be sure to set yours for a new, funny, and intelligent alternative to Saturday Night Live.

Named as one of Entertainment Weekly’s 25 funniest people, Wanda Sykes has had a long career in films, television and stand-up comedy. The Wanda Sykes show will be her second weekly television appearance as she plays Barbara Baran (Barb) on the New Adventures of Old Christine on CBS. Other appearances include comedy specials on the Comedy Channel and HBO. Her second HBO stand up special premiers in October, 2009. Sykes spent five years working on the acclaimed Chris Rock show and has won Emmy awards for her work on the Chris Rock show and Inside the NFL.

While Wanda had been out privately for quite some time, she stepped out of the closet quite publicly at a Las Vegas Proposition 8 rally in November, 2008. Sykes and her partner were married in October of 2008 and welcomed twins in April of 2009. Even before she officially came out, Sykes included discussions of gay and lesbian issues, including gay marriage, in her stand up comedy routines. It seems likely that her new show will cover, among its topical issues, many of those relevant to the gay community as a whole.

Just when you thought we would quit hearing news from Alaska the ice is melting more and more not far from the Palin Household.  The father of Sarah Palin’s grandson, Levi Johnston, 19,  is said to be working out 6 times a week, pumping up, and cutting carbs to prepare for a revealing shoot from the magazine.  We are not sure where exactly they plan to take pictures but we are sure it will be a juicy photo-op we only dream for when it comes to male celebrities. If you want to call him a male celebrity.

Recently the 19 year old was seen on the red carpet with Kathy Griffin during the Teen Choice Awards and Kathy made some jokes a few weeks later on Bill Maher saying she felt some kicking in her stomach.  Levi Johnston is also featured in some nut commercials where they say he is now using “protection” wearing an Alaska shirt.  But seeing him in the bare may be something we did not expect from him.  You know this will be one hot selling playgirl magazine because we love seeing ex or current hockey players or any type of college-aged boys in the buff and spread wide.

Kathy must have had a good influence on the still teenager.  A “Good” influence.  As for Sarah Palin it probably just adds more publicity for her upcoming book “Going Rogue” which comes out in a few weeks and is topping Amazon’s Best seller list for pre-orders.  I bet it helps Kathy’s book sales out as well.

Wasn’t it Marky Mark that posed for Playgirl years ago.  I sure wanted a copy of that!  I thought Levi Johnston was hot the first time I saw him at the RNC but now he has sort of lost some of that.  Maybe after he cleans up some from working out and tones it up he will be ready for the big time and hopefully he does not disappoint us with something small!

It is a battle of the divas and this diva has won again.  Barbra Streisand (Babs) scored her 9th number one album on the United States pop charts Wednesday according to Billboard Magazine.  With the days of Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus, Lil’ Wayne, and the Black Eyed Peas who would have thought that Barbra Streisand a jazz adult contemporary singer could get to the top spot and beat everyone out.

This shocked the music industry today because they expected Mariah Carey “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” or Paramore “Brand New Eyes” to hit #1 for next weeks edition but instead Babs took the spot.  How did this happen?  Could it be all the mean comments coming from Bill O’Reilly to her on his Pin Head game he plays nightly or could it be that we are turning back to real talent instead of just artists promoting themselves on talk shows.  Although she did just promote her album to a tiny NYC Jazz club she played at in the 60′s in front of President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton (not a bad way to get your album off to a big start).

The strong sales came from non-traditional outlets such as Starbucks and QVC’s home shopping network for Streisand.  She now extends her lead as the female act with the most number one releases on the Billboard 200 charts.  At age 67, she is also the first artist to top the chart in 5 consecutive decades.  She has not topped the chard since 1997 with “Higher Ground” and that sold more copies at 207,000.

Mariah Carey has a great new CD with an amazing remake and the Obsessed song we love so much.  I am even shocked she did not hit the #2 spot and get more sales than Paramore.  Judging from sales in the UK it was Madonna who won the battle beating out Paramore to the #1 spot the first week.  Mariah has been all over the Today show and other shows promoting her album and only sold 52,000 more copies than her 2001 “Glitter” flop.

When you look at the numbers Streisand only sold 180,000 copies compared to 168,000 from Mariah Carey and 175,000 from Paramore.  So they were definitely close and it was not a knock down drag out and considering record sales were down from 2008 this time last year you can tell money is tight from the recession.  I wonder how many pirated copies are downloaded for free of each artist.

Madonna did not underperform because her album is a two-set cd which is more expensive than any of the above.  Celebration came on at number 7 with little promotion but maybe it will get more sales now that she appeared on Saturday Night Live.  I did not see Madonna mention her new album.  She appeared on the MTV VMA’s but did not perform instead she did the very unselfish tribute to Michael Jackson.  I just think many could not afford the two-cd set from Celebration and opted for the cheaper albums on sale this week.  I will be enjoying the DVD of all of her videos over the years she also put out and her new Celebration CD – especially the Lil’ Wayne revolver song ‘Revolver’.  This is Madonna’s final record with Warner Music Group and she will launch a new re-invention with Live Nation in the coming years.

Babs we are happy for you!  It looks like the Liberals won for sure on this one.

We all loved her speech at the MTV VMA Awards Sunday night where she did an amazing Michael Jackson Tribute. Support Madonna now and get her new CD. This would shatter all openings if Madonna and Janet Jackson were to take stage together.  Two fabulous divas and entertainers to open up the award show that always has tricks up its sleeves and always finds a way to shock us from years before.  Think about this for a minute you have the queen of pop on stage with the king of pops sister on stage for the first time together.  Although we did love the Brittney Spears juicy kiss with Madonna with Christina Aguilera munching on her as well.

Madonna could just be introducing Janet Jackson for the Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in NYC but then again she could be performing.  The rumors are flying and even Perez Hilton is commenting on the matter.  I think Madonna is in NYC because she just bought a large townhouse in the area.  She also just finished her two year Sticky and Sweet tour and is promoting her new Celebration album.

Madonna is also making news today because her Celebration dance track just broke another record by making it the 40th number one hit for her on the dance play charts on Billboard.  I “have a feeling” that the entire album will score a #1 when it hits stores at the end of September because it includes so many great old school songs and a new collaboration with Lil Wayne.

The MTV VMA Awards will be broadcast live Sunday night from NYC and will feature Pink, Green Day, Muse, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Eminem, Taylor Swift, and that funny Brand guy with the English accent we love so much.  It will be a jam packed show with the most awards up for grabs for Lady Gaga and Beyonce.  My prediction is that we may even see a squeezed in performance from Mariah Carey while she is doing her Las Vegas show and see something spectacular from Lady Gaga.  Janet Jackson will be on stage with choreographers performing some hits of Michael Jackson during a all-star tribute and we will be living like it is 1990 again Gaga style.

Fashion week is also going on here in NYC and we have seen Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, and many other celebs at Saks and Macy’s events wearing some hot hot outfits.  I cannot wait to see what everyone is wearing on the red carpet.  I have no clue to what I will be wearing on the red carpet but if you log on to MTV.com they actually a live feed video unedited of people walking past setting up the stage and will be showing the celebs once it is all built.

Really?  That is the big rumor going around on ridiculious youtube videos and blogs. It really sounds like a rumor that Lady Gaga would come up with herself.  She is one wid Lady.

One blog and Youtube video reported that she has some type of drag suit that fits her body to make her more womanly.  How does this guy know.  He says he is from San Francisco where there are lots of drag queens.  Well he is a pinhead because there are drag queens in every city not just in San Fran.  Just because they have a weekly Tranny Shack is not proof he is some expert on drag.

I am so sick of these experts claiming to know so much especially the gossip reporting on this story.  It is insane that these blogs reporting something that Lady Gaga said could not confirm the quote.

A video has emerged where there may or may not be a bulge in her underwear and this has people talking.  They claim it is male genitalia even though it could just be a wad in her panties.  Are people just that scared she is a man.  She could be a man but we know she is bi so it sounds like she likes it all.  Maybe she wants all the body parts.  She can have what she damn well wants she is Lady Gaga!  I will say I saw her butt in person and it does look like a guys rear or that of a hot lesbians.  Either way we love us some Gaga!

Back in May Lady Gaga told Rolling Stone magazine that she was bi-sexual and that “I think I’m changing what people think is sexy.”  Yes, indeed she is.

Lady Gaga’s manager says the claims are “Ridiculous.”

And what is a hermaphrodite anyway?  It is a person that has both male and female reproductive organs.  Is the pop singer a man or women.  Who cares.  Let’s enjoy the music and her amazing looks.

Madonna said she is “devastated” by the news of a stage crewmember being killed by a freak accident of her stage collapsing while being built in France today.  A French worker was killed and a few others were seriously injured while trapped from the roof of the falling stage.

Madonna is currently on tour performing her Sticky and Sweet Europeon leg in Italy and was not in Marseilles France when this happened.  Putting together stages can be a difficult task and something that happens in a very timely manner which can lead to lots of accidents.  This sort of reminds me of the Cowboys stadium in Dallas where players were injured from a collapsing roof.  Very sad situation.

The Sticky and Sweet tour is expected to go through Spain, Czech Republic’s Prague, and end in Israel.  I am hoping to attend the Czech Republic show in Prague and hope to see the Sex museum there and other historic sites.

Madonna may also take part in the 2009 MTV VMA Awards from NYC for a huge Michael Jackson Tribute with many other celebrities.  She has already done one great tribute on her July 4th show in London at the same  02 Arena where Jackson was supposed to perform this month.

I have a sick feeling that the reports from TMZ and other sources that Michael Jackson has died in LA.  The reports are that he had quit breathing.  The Perez Hilton site is down today probably due to a surge in traffic that the web host could not hold up.  Our thoughts today are with Michael Jackson and his family and we hope he recovers and is ok.  He has a Summer and Fall tour planned for London this year and he has been rehearsing for this tour.

Steve Ruda told the newspaper Thursday that Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m.

If you were like me you were glued to the TV like it was an American Idol Finale every night when this sitcom came on LOGO.  This was to see what these Texas country gals do next whether they shoot out of their trailers, protest a bar being open with religious signs, or eat lots of valium.  This show reminded me of many people who I have known in my life from small town America it shows your religious nuts, loving mothers, prescription drug-addictive temptations, and affairs. Most of all it was beginning to close out the season on Jason Dottley known as Ty at his mothers door just after she had flushed some valiums down the toilet.

Sordid Lives the TV show had the hottest of guys being Jason and his singing men chorus auditions when it broke to the Hollywood scene he was engaged in but then went back to Texas life to show his family and friends there.  Oh, and there is Leslie Jordon who plays Loretta Lynn or Brother Boy as they called him… the guy from Will and Grace.

The other great characters were Noleta Nethercott, Peggy Ingram (Rue McClanahan, Golden Girls), and I think my favorite was Beth Grant or Sissy Hickey.  I just loved Sissy’s bee-hive-ish hair.  But there was also the singing delight Bitsy Mae who we all know as Olivia Newton-John.  And we cannot forgot LaVonda and then there is Dr. Eve the doc trying to change the Sexual Preferences of Brother Boy.

So this about shows you a sum of some of the big name stars in this show not including the terriffic Del Shores who put all of this together.  But what is the catch? LOGO is claiming they will not bring back the show because of its costs blamed on the bad economy.  It may be too late to save the show from LOGO  carrying it but we could try.  There is currently a petition going on over at the petition site and a facebook page setup to save the show.

Oh and while you are at it let’s make a petition for someone to bring back Queer As Folk.  That is my all time favorite show and I think its high time to have a revamped QAF every sunday night.  Both shows need to come back but Sordid Lives can be easier to bring back since its on a roll right now as a popular show and just need some action from us all.

The whole thing with Perez Hilton and Will.I.Am is such a mess and makes us all look horrible.  A little drama here and there is expected when you have big egos getting together whether it be inside a Church, Nightclub, business meeting, or a power struggle.  At first I saw Perez Hilton’s twitter and was on his side but then I started looking more into and thought why did he call someone a “faggot”.  It is unacceptable to use the f-word no matter how drunk you are when you are in public (or even private these days with video around) when you are fighting for gay rights.  It is as bad as the N word to the gay community and should not be used.

Del Shores the writer of Sordid Lives wrote on his facebook demanding that GLAAD take action and they finally did.  It is a sad situation when the gay community has to face off against each other because we are supposed to be a fabulous loving family.  Perez Hilton should apoligize to the entire gay community for his actions even though he was assulted.  The assult and violence brought on from Will.I.Am and Fergie’s band manager should be punished as well.  Violence is never the answer but words such as F-words should not be used either.

The TMZ video of this made my stomach hurt and I was shaking in disapointment that someone in our community would embarass us like this.  It is hard to stand by him but I think he will in time apoligize and clean things up… we should give him a chance to do better and all quit hating each other.  Hate and violence are what the religoius extremists do to each other and we certainly do not want to be one of those losers.

Del Shores (whom is also married to actor Jason Dottley) has also been commenting about the Dustin Lance Black pictures that were posted on Perez Hilton’s site and how that hurt the gay community.  Keep in mind this was only a week or so ago so there is even more bitterness towards Perez.  Although I will have to give Hilton credit that he took down the nude pics of Dustin Lance Black of Milk.

On a better note, Lady Gaga was amazing and sexy as can be gyrating like a hot stripper at the Much Music Awards.  Whether she is a man or a woman she is the hottest thing on the planet.  Her flaming boobs made Britney and the MTV Awards look like a Disney reject movie.  We love you Gaga and can’t wait to see what you do next.

Breaking from Perez Hilton’s celebrity site today are some highly steamy photos of Dustin Lance Black who were sold to the media.  It is sad that you cannot make a home video with your partner without having to worry about the media getting a hold of it and everyone starring at your private parts online.  But move over the Portland Mayor and his teenage boytoy Beau Breedlove – we now have a new scandal (that shouldn’t be a scandal).   Not that the Mayor of Portland dating a 18yr old adult should have been either.

I see if this “explodes” into something big it will be because people are jealous that the Oscar winning Milk writer is so hot in this video.  Hotter than most of the stars that are really supposed to be doing these types of videos.  I admit i will be the first to buy this video!

Of course we all know Dustin lance is gay but did we know he had sex too?  OMG really? haha.  People goto the bathroom as well.  This whole thing could end up being as silly as Adam Lambert coming out as Gay.   I just wonder how these things get “leaked” out or does Dustin Lance want us to know how big his pee pee is… Photo courtesy of Perez Hilton.com.

We are refusing to post any images or videos that were seen on the Perez Hilton site but it was hot to see.  We are a big fan of Dustin Lance Black and hope he continues to do well in his career.

I could have just avoided the final moments of hearing who won American Idol this year.  The performance from Adam Lambert and Kris Allen to the Queen We are the Champions was just amazing.  I had to watch it over about 20 times it was so good.  They looked into each others eyes almost like they were in love.  It was like the Brokeback Mountain meets American Idol.  It was breathtaking.  Then in the end they got broke up with a sad ending where the gay did not win but maybe we did afterall…because WE are the Champions.  The lead singer of Queen who died of HIV/AIDS and the powerful song was symbolic of our struggle and I feel the show was more about how far Adam Lambert came.

I’m not a big Amerian Idol fan.  I only watched this season for Kris Allen and Adam Lambert and I liked the chick with the tattoos and Matt Giraud.  This season was by far the best season ever of Idol.  But it really was Adam Lambert who made American Idol exciting this year it would have been a boring show without him.  Danny Pokey Gokey was nothing more than a Karoke cruise ship singer who seemed like a nice guy but him and some of the others really had no business being in the top 10.

America eagerly awaited for Adam Lambert’s next creative showing each week which normally outdid the others and outdid himself.  It was the growing talent he had which we all desire on one of these reality shows and we all knew in our hearts he should have won but had that dark feeling that he probably will not win because most of America is still too set in their ways.  It came down to what Suze Orman predicted on twitter:  Suze Orman tweeted that Kris Allen would get Danny Gokeys votes and Adam will lose.  She was right.  Although what is a finance lady doing talking about American Idol– haha no wonder were in a recession lol.  OK, love you Suze.  And by the way Suze was for Adam.

Not only was the gay communities biggest hero Suze Orman for Adam but Katy Perry went out of her way to show her support.  Katy Perry came on Idol and flashed an Elvis outfit with Adam Lambert embrodered on the back.   Katy was performing her new Vegas song which will be a big hit in gay clubs this Summer I can assure you that!  Such good timing since Vegas pride is going on while she rolls out her Vegas song!

Simon was also behind Adam to win Idol.   He did not look too happy when the winner was announced.  Maybe it was the vote against gays or the momentum the religious right has built up from Miss California’s hate against us.  Maybe it was just the fact that Kris Allen is cute as a button and acted so gay friendly that gays even voted for him.  In the end, Adam had the better voice and could out sing Kris but they were really two different types of performers.  So the right thing to do should have been for Kris to say hey this is a tie. I am giving my award to both of us.

The gays already lost with Clay Aiken losing to Ruben Studdard.   There is no way in hell Ruben was better than Clay Aiken at that point anyway.  Clay Aiken was clean cut though and never had the creative energy we see with Adam Lambert.

It is no surprise that a gay got that far in any competition.  I mean if you really think Benji from So You Think You Can Dance is straight or Travis for that matter then think again. Look at most of Hollywood and you will see lots of gays in the closet.  The sad thing is that they want us to put on an act for them 100% of the time and live our lives for them.  If gay marriage does become legal I will not be living my life for the religious right people to live how they think I should live.  I will still be my creative, innovative, ambitious, fun, passionate self and I hope everyone else does too.  So don’t go closing down the nightclubs I will be out to dance!

As for the rest of the Idol show it was mostly great.  Rod Stewart scared me a few times I thought he was going to fall over with his drunken walk.  What was the deal with Fergie and the black eyed peas they seemed to cut away from that performance with the Idol logo and some type of time delay as if something was said after she sung the word “staggered”.  Was she predicting Rod Stewart staggering around?  The time delay part was strange or it was a major technical error.

It was great to see Cyndi lauper perform although I would have loved to her one of her newer songs that were big hits in our community last year.  My top moments of the night were Adam Lambert singing with KISS, Queen performance with Kris and Adam, and Kara DioGuardi singing to Mariah and bearing some skin for us.

Kara DioGuardi was the sexiest thing on the stage last night.  It was hot to see her show some skin and that black bikini thong.  You go girl!  I earned lots of respect for Kara with that performance.

Adam should have won but he will most likely sell more records than Kris Allen anyway.  Someone like Adam Lambert probably does not want the American Idol contract… he probably wants to do his own thing anyway which is why he was pleased from the results on his facial expressions.  He was probably thinking “thank God!”  Kelly Clarksen has been trying to change her image from the Idol winner for years.

They plan to go on tour this fall but I will just wait for Adam Lambert’s tour in a few years when its not the rest of them.  Until then it’s Green Day, No Doubt, and Beyonce on tour!  If you live in Europe you can even catch Madonna.

Another year at the White House Correspondents dinner for Journalists and another controversial edgy comedian takes the podium. Last year the right was in an uproar over Steven Colbert who took some deep jabs at President Bush (who everyone seemed to forget about this year).

Now all the talking heads on TV are going after Wanda Sykes head.  But not her liver I don’t guess.  Why is it that no one is realizing she is a comedian.  She is not stooping down to Rush Limbaugh’s level because he is NOT a comedian as funny and entertaining as he may seem to some wackos.  Rush Limbaugh is a talking head slash pundit or political commentator or talk show host who should be held up the standards that everyone is holding Wanda Sykes up to.  Why is it that Wanda says something everyone goes bananas and Rush says something no one fears.

I don’t think people should be wishing someone ill health.. death.. or pain of any kind.   I think the context and the joking manner was different than someone like Bill O’Reilly or a non-comedian saying it.  The View commented on Wanda and even Whoppi said “it wasn’t funny”.  But what about the entire speech?  I mean seriously.  If no one laughed as they say during that part of the speech they sure loved all of it before that and after that from what I saw.  It’s funny on some shows the Miss California speech had boos and others had claps as if they edited the sound to make it look on some shows that Miss. California had supporters.  Perez Hilton says there were more people booing in the audience though.  Which makes me skeptical of any kind of sounds in the background unless you are actually there in person.

Let’s not forget how great the speech was. I thoroughly enjoyed it and had to watch it several times as it was very entertaining. If you have not watched the entire video (parts 1 and 2) make sure you do because what the media shows are just small cuts.

Wanda Sykes goes on tour this Summer as part of the True Colors comedy leg. Wanda recently came out (again) for gay rights because of Proposition 8 in California and has since been a strong advocate and help to gay rights.

In other big news today Wanda Sykes’ wife gave birth to twins Daughter Olivia Lou and Son Lucas Claude.

The front page of AOL news today linked off to some blog that asked if America would vote for a gay American Idol.  They even featured a poll asking if people would vote for a gay American Idol and a poll asking if Adam Lambert is gay.  Seriously?  They act as if their has never been a gay idol before.  And I do not mean from the TV show American Idol.  We all know Clay Aiken and others almost made it to the Idol.  I doubt Ruben Studdard won because Clay was gay acting it was more likely the psychology of people thinking others were calling in for Clay so they did not bother… but who knows.

And as for gay idols there have been many in America.  Come to think of it when you think of music and acting almost the higher percentage is gay.  So why are the talking heads like Bill O’Reilly blubbering that its shocking that Adam Lambert could be gay.  Big deal he had some pics online of him making out with other guys on Myspace or some social network.  Who cares? I never knew there was a law against making out.

The media is so set on shocking people and trying out out people.  We should be focused on the quality of the talent and not the reputation from the media.  Of course what else will people like Bill O’Reilly do for his ratings if he can’t diss on gays or MSNBC.

Adam Lambert’s Myspace is private so you can’t peek inside unless he adds you as a friend and it seems he has not even signed in since February.  His being gay is no ones business but some of us gays want to know because it does mention single on his profile :).

Adam is the best thing that has happened to American Idol in a long time.  I Tivo the show each night and would be highly disappointed if he got voted off somehow.  He brings talent to the show of someone with creativity we do not see often and he is 27 years old.  Not only would it be nice for a gay person to win assuming hes gay but it would be nice for someone in their higher age group to win.

His favorite artists include Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Pink.  Three divas that are the best things to happen to music.  When he came on stage to do the Mad World song it was like Elvis had walked on stage.  He is such a great performer and I look forward to next week.

Is Adam Lambert Gay?  Judge for yourself.  Life has mystery for a reason.  It’s shocking to me that people search more about peoples personal lives than their actual talent such as their videos perfoming.

There were thousands of books removed from the sales rankings at Amazon.com mostly due to a new computer program.  Most of the titles seem to be gay and lesbian books such as Heather Has Two Mommies, a book by Ellen Degeneres, The Dictionary of Homophobia, Brokeback Mountain, and many more.  Amazon claims they are not censoring out gay and lesbian books but some have their doubts because they continued to rank the heterosexually-themed books with explicit sexual content including Playboy: The Complete Centerfolds and the graphic novel Lost Girls by Alan Moore.

Has Amazon turned into the new Wal-Mart when it comes to censoring music and books?   Amazon claims this is a computer glitch and all of the books will be re-listed in the top sales rankings.  If we see anything happen like this again we need to investigate the situation more and evaluate if a major boycott of Amazon needs to take place.  Until we find out more on the situation you should get your books from gay friendly bookstores in your local cities.  It is a shame so many historic gay bookstores have went out of business such as the Crossroads in Dallas and the Oscar Wilde Bookshop closed down just last month.  We have got to support our gay neighborhoods and bookstores or they will close down and who will look out for our rights then?

You can still buy most of these books at Amazon.com but the high sales come from them being rated higher.   Publications can rarely survive if they have no rankings.

I found this Craig’s List post amusing today because they were giving up their Marc Jacobs purse for a pair of Britney tickets.  Really?  Really? They may have to give up their purse and a few Ben Franklin’s inside the purse if they wish to score some Britney Spears concert tickets.

Perez Hilton claims her show was all a lip sync but I have heard others say its an awesome show and that most of the seats are good seats because the way the show is setup in the round seating.  Which I normally do not care for Round seating.

If you got some Britney Tickets there is no telling what people are willing to give up to get them.  Just check your local Craigs Listing =)

When I first heard mention of the show called RuPaul’s Drag Race I knew it would be a hit.  RuPaul took so many people away with her video which was played on MTV years ago when being a drag queen or GLBT was just not something you wanted to walk around and be happy about.  We must have progressed quite a bit if we are talking about Gay Marriage in the media now.  I first saw RuPaul on TV with a straight friend of mine and we both thought it was a tall, sexy women.  My mom I think was the one that actually told me that it was a man and I then I kept watching the video and acted like I did not know.  I wanted to keep watching that video over and over and over.  I could not get enough out of RuPaul’s Supermodel (You betta Work).

We have to thank LOGO for bringing us such good shows as the Drag Race although I think everyone was in shock that BeBe won instead of Nina Flowers.  Most of the Myspace bulletions being sent out right now all think that Nina should have won.  I thought she was more fierce than Bebe Zahara Benet who won tonight.  Bebe seemed to look down too much in the background and just did not seem as magical.  I thought her crying was not all that real but maybe it was.. I will have to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I felt so sorry for Rebecca Glasscock she was under so much pressure on the Season Finale.  Having to make up a rap with Cazwell, learning choreagraphy for RuPaul’s new video, and preparing for a fate fullfilled lunch of tic tacs with RuPaul can be pretty stressful but she should have had more fun with it and had less attitude with the judges.  It says on the LOGO site that Rebecca is from Ft. Lauderdale which I frequent quite a bit but have never heard of her.  I would love to check out her show if she performs with Daisy Deadpettles at Voodoo Lounge on Sundays or wherever she does her show.  I am surprised Daisy D was not in the show she could easily be the next Supermodel drag queen.   Rebecca was stunning in drag and cute out of drag but just did not make the cut.

Ongina had the fiercest cat walk out of all of them but she probably did not deserve to get as far as she did.  I like to see some wigs when I watch drag.  Furthermore, I especially loved the episode with the butch boxer/fighter girls being made over.  That was an emotional episode for me.

This reminds me of American Idol in the way that the winner is normally not the person that you really remember.  I bet the people that stick in our heads more will be Rebecca Glasscock and Nina Flowers.  Nina Flowers will be the Clay Aiken of the competition.

Supermodel, You better Work!

More and more actors are slowly tiptoeing out of the closet in Hollywood today. While out actors and actresses used to be largely limited to Broadway, today several openly gay actors and actresses can be seen on television and in movies on a regular basis. Media coverage of out celebrities’ gay weddings has increased and relationships are no longer as hidden. Some young actors and actresses are simply choosing to live openly, even if they do not officially come out of the closet.

Two out gay actors can be seen on major network television each week. Neil Patrick Harris has a major role as Barney Stinson in CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight is also out of the closet and open about his sexuality. Both play straight characters and both were first outed by the incessant rumor mills of Hollywood, but acknowledged their sexuality publicly and openly. While based in Britain, Sir Ian McKellan is perhaps the most famous gay actor working in films today. McKellan came out in 1988 and is a prominent voice for gay men in television and films. Out gay men in Hollywood remain a rarity. Rumors fly that leading men are gay or bisexual, but they keep their private lives private to preserve their careers in a homophobic world.

Out lesbians are more common, and possibly more accepted in Hollywood. Ellen and Portia’s recent wedding made the cover of major magazines in grocery stores across America. Rosie O’Donnell has been out for several years and remains a vocal figure in the entertainment world. Lindsay Lohan’s recent acknowledgement of her relationship reveals a new generation of young, out celebrities. Criminal Minds’ star Kristin Vangsness and Fringe actress Jasika Nicole are both open about their sexuality. While Jodie Foster has guarded her privacy for many years, she did out herself in a thanks to her partner Cyndey Bernard in December of 2007. Comedian Wanda Sykes officially outed herself in the wake of the Proposition 8 vote. Sex in the City actress Cynthia Nixon has also come out publicly, with no harm done to her career. Women clearly can keep their careers and sex appeal in Hollywood in a way that gay men may not yet be capable of, even if they are willing to let the public know about their private relationships.

The recent release of Milk has left some asking whether straight actors can and should play gay when it’s appropriate or if gay actors should be favored for gay roles.  While Milk, like Brokeback Mountain, includes prominent Hollywood actors, they are all straight actors. Many gay actors find themselves nearly exclusively limited to gay roles. It is no significant surprise that many gay and lesbian actors simply keep their private lives hidden from public view to avoid losing access to good roles and opportunities.

Who’s Next?

The cover of OUT Magazine had Paul Wentz from Fall Out Boy declaring he was a “Fa-g” but for reals we know better than that.  He is one hell of a hot metrosexual. American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken came out in 2008 but we all sort of knew that was coming.  Who will be the next Celebrity to come out of the closet? Stay tuned for what 2009 has in store!

This Thanksgiving week we may not feel that we have much to be thankful for because of some setbacks in the last election towards gay rights.  Thanksgiving will be the premiere of the movie Milk starring Sean Penn directed by Gus Van Sant.  Hopefully there will be a big showing of movie theaters that will be carrying the movie across the US so we can all see it without having to travel too far.  The Milk Movie also stars Emile Hirsch and Josh Brolin.

Harvey Milk is known in San Francisco and around the country as a gay leader and hero.  There will also be Memorials held in various places in time for the 30th anniversary of Harvey Milk.

Recently, a Harvey Milk day was vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger on September 30.  This bill AB 2567 would require the governor proclaim May 22 each year as Harvey Milk Day.  It is too bad this did not pass but we should all go out and support the movie and attend his Memorial if in a city where either is going on.

Our hunt today is to find out what’s good in the world of gay, independent film making. That’s a pretty large subject, larger than you might first think. What names come to mind when you think of gay indies? Jerek Jarman was first on my list, ‘Sebastian’ closely followed by Gus Van Sant, ‘My own private Idaho’ and ‘Even cowgirls get the blues’. Searching around the net I found a staggering amount of independent gay movies – independent as opposed to Hollywood. I mean, there haven’t been that many gay blockbusters have there? Brokeback Mountain was said to be the first but anyone who has watched The Wizard of Oz might take issue with that.

There are, of course, some famous ones: Pricilla Queen of the desert, To Wong Foo, thanks for everything Julie Newmar and The Birdcage, for example, though with that last one I would recommend the original La Cage aux folles. But what other gay movies are out there that you may not have heard about? That’s what I thought I would find out for you.

Have you heard of Law of Desire? This 1987 film from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar stars Antonio Banderas stalking the man of his dreams – and yes, there is a man-sex scene in there. Do you remember My beautiful laundrette, with Daniel Day Lewis? This caused quite a storm when it first came out thanks to the overt homosexuality and interracial relationships, particularly as Daniel plays a gay skinhead.

As we’re in Britain at the moment, what about Beautiful Thing? Directed by Hettie Macdonald and set in inner London this too caused quite a stir when it was released. It had enjoyed a good West End run as a play before transferring to the big screen and is something of a collectors’ item.

Ok, so there is a wealth of good, and not so good, gay indies out there to find – but where to find them is the next question. Try strandreleasing.com an online shop that has several genres, one of which is Gay and Lesbian. It’s interesting to note that many gay films deal with AIDS and you have to wonder if independent film makers would have found an audience for their gay films were it not for AIDS – it is the subject of many good indie films. (I know there were the likes of Midnight Cowboy before AIDS, but those films didn’t really have ‘gay’ as the central theme, or else they portrayed gay people as the bad guy or the comedy camp role, if at all.)

Zero Patience, directed by John Greyson stands out as one to find on line and buy. It looks at the alleged first man to bring AIDS to the USA and is by turns funny, dramatic and sad. There is also the fabulous Geoffrey, with Patrick Stuart in a camp role adding humor. This story is about a guy refusing to ever have sex again for fear of catching HIV. It too is a mix of funny and sad, with Mother Teresa playing the piano to top things off at the end.

Many of these indie films have come, originally, from plays but there are still many good plays waiting in the wings to be made into films. To find out what’s coming up in the world of gay independent films take a look at filmmovement.com where, among other things, you can find out about the 20th London Lesbian and Gay film festival. That was only one search result, festivals like this happen in Seattle, Paris, Tokyo and many other places. It’s just a question of how you search.

The rumors have been spreading like wildfire ever since the Sticky & Sweet tour started this fall that Madonna and Guy Ritchie would divorce because they are having martial problems. We heard about Alex Rodriquez the baseball player she may have had an affair with and then there was

I have wondered what took so long with Madonna and Guy Ritchie breaking up. He was the main reason that Madonna and her brother supposedly quit talking and he never really got behind her music. He was too busy being jealous of Madonna’s accomplishments and not really doing anything for himself.

Let’s all hope that the pre-nuptial agreement was around before they got hitched. I am afraid from some of the news stories I have read that they may not have had a pre-nup which could really put a dent in Madonna’s worth. According to the Sun.co.uk who originally broke the story they said they were more worried about the kids than anything.

This news just so happens right in the middle of her Sticky and Sweet tour hitting Boston, MA. Madonna is scheduled to perform tonight at 8pm at the TD Banknorth Gardens. I will be attending the concert myself on Thursday and very excited to see her new show!!

Madonna has also been in the news this week for banning Sarah Palin from attending her concert and wearing high heels that look like a gun sparking controversy with some gun rights groups. Teens wear gun and knive logos on their shirts these days bought from Pac Sun and MetroPark and Madonna is doing nothing but stomping on the gun with her feet she is not pointing it at anyone. Although she did say she would beat up Sarah Palin… I hope someone will!!

The economy is going to tank with numbers like 7-7-7 and the divas are collapsing.  Cher recently had to cancel 4 shows in Vegas this past week and weekend.  I could not find any news clips that told me exactly what happened but we know she was so ill the doctor told her she could not perform last week.  We were supposed to attend her show Saturday night which was canceled at Caesars Palace Colosseum.  So far they have lost millions from the canceled show.  Cher is expected to be back Tuesday, September 30.  Hopefully she is well and will be back in business.

Janet Jackson has also been hospitalized after falling ill before a concert.  It looks like a bad start to October for Diva shows.  Let’s hope they both get well and can start putting smiles on our faces again…. Lord knows we need it after loosing money with the market collapsing.

Ok, this stuff normally happens in threes so Madonna you better take care of yourself too!

Ok, first of all National Coming Out Day is not until October 11th.  Why is it that we have Clay Aiken, Lindsey Lohan, and a McCain staffer all being outed this week.  One week of so many outings that we could fill up an entire gay pride parade with all the celebrities coming out.

The most exciting with the mainstream media of course is Clay Aiken.  Maybe because of that fight on the View? or because of the fact he just looked so gay on American Idol that no one could believe that hes straight no matter what the poor kid tried to do.  Nothing wrong with that Clay we all know your a bottom.

What about Lindsey Lohan coming out?  Well this seems to be timed with her new album coming out soon with a song about being ‘bossy’ or something.  So she is the butch one?  Samantha Ronson might be the bossier one she is the DJ and might like to be more in charge.  Kudos to them for coming out and looking so juicy together.

But what about this latest buzz of a coming out parade going on with the gay blogs and OutQ Sirius radio announcers.  The Yahoo Buzz will be clicking soon like a tap dancer like lesbians on parade when the world finds out that McCain has worked with a gay man for over 17 years.  If Mark Buse is gay it will show hipocracy once again with the McCain Palin ticket.  Everything going on in their campaign is coverups and lies and this is just one of them.

I do not think that people should be outed though.  I feel it is vindictive and no ones business who someone has sex with even if they are in a high office.  This of course unless they are being a hipocrite.  No ones personal lives should be in front of the media or to anyone unless you tell them yourself.

But boy do we have a big story on our hands just in time for national coming out day 2008!

Have you ever sat and watched the Olympics for the wrong reason? I bet you have. I bet most people have and I also bet that they aren’t watching the shooting or the marathon, good though those events are. I’m thinking of sexy guys in tight lycra speedos and swimwear here – the Greek/Roman wrestling, the gymnastics and the diving. Where else can you get to see so much toned muscle, smooth skin and intriguing bulges for free?

Well, you can search around the net of course and see what you can come up with. Let’s try a search with an image search engine, for Olympic Swimmers, and see who was the hottest swimmer at the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Michael Phelps without a doubt. There are hundreds of cool (or I should say ‘hot’) pics of him to be had. I could list hundreds of URLS but that would look unsightly, instead here is my favorite page: squarehippies.com It contains several images of the smooth-skinned hunk and we’re particularly fond of the ones where he wears he swim-shorts very low on his hips, giving us a tantalizing view of the Olympic tattoo. (I know most swimmers shave their chests but do they also shave their pubic hair do you think? Yum.)

Back to Beijing and then off to towleroad.com/michael_phelps. Yes it’s him again, it seems every page that concerns Olympic Swimmers at the moment concentrates on Michael Phelps, and rightly so, he’s done a great job. But this page compares him to the man whose records he beat, Mark Spitz, also sexy in his, now slightly old-fashioned, way. Scroll down that page to find magazine cover shots of more sexy swimmers including Ryan Lochte.

I’m delving further into what folk who post on the Web think is sexy, when it comes to athletes from the Olympic Games – and concentrating on the men. I’m full up with Phelps so am talking generally here. How about the USA Gymnastics team? Six sexy guys including redhead Justin Spring and sexy Alexander Artemev. The official site, usa-gymnastics.org gives you pics and profiles. Or Australian diver Matthew Mitcham? Not only did he have the courage to dive from a 10-metre platform but he also had the courage to come out and declare his homosexuality before competing in the games, the first Australian athlete to do so. And he’s good looking too but hitched, so you can forget snuggling up to his tight, wet body after a quick dip in the pool.

Ok, so we know there are plenty of good looking and naturally fit guys out there getting wet, standing on diving boards or flinging themselves around in a water polo game but what makes them so sexy? Apart from their looks and bodies of course. I reckon it’s what they wear. Swimwear that just about reveals everything when wet, not those all on one body suits, though they can be sexy too. What they wear must be approved months before the games take place. Suits are designed to eliminate drag in the water and there is a debate as to whether swimmers go faster depending on what suit they are wearing. But I think the purpose of a swim-suit isn’t to make the swimmer go faster, it’s to make our pulses race faster, particularly when you have a stunning looking guy stretching on a diving board or bending over on the starting blocks about to dive in. You know he’s going to come out wet with that suit clinging to him…

Oh well, only another four years to wait for the next round of hot Olympian swimmers.

TOO HOT: Be careful searching for Michael Phelps official myspace page. I have seen many phishing sites and fake myspace and facebook pages generated in the searches for the official page. After searching for several minutes I came across what looked like his real myspace but I do not really think it is. We will keep you updated if we find the official or real myspace pages for the hot swimmer.

It seems that not a year goes by without some kind of scandal hitting the TV show American Idol. It makes you wonder if the producers do it on purpose to boost ratings – I know I certainly would if I wanted to get my show splashed across the pages of websites and newspapers. In the past, either by accident or design, several scandals have threatened to overshadow the show itself.

Remember Frenchie Davis’ adult web site photos? She was booted off the show because of some raunchy pics on the net. Corey Clark spilled the beans on his alleged relationship with Paula Abdul and I couldn’t help noticing from the coverage that he said he was writing a ‘tell-all’ book on the subject. Well, if you can’t get fame one way…

But what’s all this about David Hernandez? This one hadn’t reached me yet so I checked out some of the news sites on the web to get to the bottom of it all. Looks like the 24 year old singer once worked as a stripper in a cabaret bar in Phoenix. ‘Dick’s Cabaret’ was the rather unimaginative name of the place. The manager was reported as saying that David used to lap dance, he had the right look, he stripped, he was good at what he did. So what? Why is there such a fuss about someone taking his clothes off in order to earn cash and bring people pleasure at the same time?

Ah… I see, it was a gay cabaret bar – or at least the clientele were ‘mostly men’. Shock horror indeed that a clean looking guy with good features and a nice voice, competing to get to the top of a TV competition should once have flashed his dick at some guys and had money pushed into his thong. But, as an impartial observer, I don’t think that is what the real outcry was about. I think it was about two things:

One, it was a ‘mainly male’ audience. If he had performed for women I’m sure the ‘scandal’ would have only upped his rating in the show; he’s a pretty good looking guy and I wouldn’t mind seeing him get his kit off. And two, a man who used to strip was allowed to appear on a family show on American TV! ‘How dare they allow such outrage? My children were watching.’ (Moral right shouting from their armchairs here, not me.) According to VoteForTheWorst.com there was a rumor that David also had a boyfriend and they posted pics of him working at a gay nightclub. (‘A gay nightclub!’ Bellows the almost apoplectic old codger from his armchair.) Actually there are some topless pics of him on that site that are with a look but no stripping video or pics yet, shame.

I tried to follow up on the story to see what the outcome was but most ‘news’ sites were simply copying The Associated Press story that first laid down the facts: American Idol contestant once stripped in front of gay men. There was a little more interesting information from the guys at the infamous and alcohol free cabaret bar (voted “best gay male revue” by The Phoenix New Times in 2004). They believed David gave up his job there because of going into the TV show and they also said that he didn’t used to sing in the cabaret. And there the story seems to peter out. Unless you go to the rather excellent MTV site and catch up on all the American Idol news at MTV.com (topics American idol).

So, a storm in a tea cup, or in a thong perhaps? A publicity stunt by the show to boost ratings? Someone trying to stir a little mud? At the end of the day who cares what someone did in their past (as long as it was moral and legal), if the boy can sing let him sing. If he can strip, let him strip. If he can do both at once… Now that would be a reality TV show worth watching.

Reality television is an unavoidable phenomenon in today’s world. Not surprisingly, television’s GLBT network, LOGO has a hand in the reality TV market. While I’ll admit my own television provider does not carry LOGO, Gimme Sugar is one of my guilty indulgences. Fortunately, logoonline.com provides the video for those of us without access on our home TVs.

The premise of Gimme Sugar is simple. A group of twenty-something women in L.A.’s lesbian club scene are working to launch and promote their own club night in this competitive market. Not surprisingly, this isn’t exactly a drama free undertaking, and there are break ups and make ups, fights and friendships.

Any reality show is only as good as the cast. If you don’t care about the lives of the people on the show, you simply will not care about the show itself. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to get wrapped up in the lives of Charlene, Alex, Robin, Sayeh, Davonee, and Bathilda. Charlene is the manager of the Truck Stop and one of the minds behind the L.A. lesbian club scene. L.A. just wouldn’t be L.A. without those looking for the spotlight, and Alex and Davonee are both hoping for that spotlight. Sayeh and Robin are both new to the club scene in Los Angeles, and Sayeh is new to the group of friends. Bathilda is the hit of the club scene, both gay and straight.

Is this deep and life changing television? Well, no…but it is a fun summer romp. There are some great things about this little show. First, the women are all friends in real life, who started their venture to offer the underage Alex a chance to go clubbing with all the rest. It’s racially diverse, offering young women of color a chance to see media images that look like them reflected in this show. It features a gay-positive social environment and network, and presents an image of successful and happy young queer women. Nothing is perfect, however, and the show does often reflect the biphobia of our community in the women’s critical interactions with bisexual Alex. It is, fundamentally, just another show in this genre, this one just happens to have young lesbians as its cast.

This new reality show airs on LOGO on Mondays at 10:00 PM with regular re-airings throughout the week. The six episode season will wrap up soon, but it’s sure to be replayed if you have missed it. You can also find episodes online at logoonline.com , as well as recaps available at afterellen.com.

GLBT folk are appearing on more and more reality shows, ranging from major network offerings to shows on more typically gay friendly networks like LOGO and Bravo. In fact, if you are looking for out GLBTQ individuals, you are far more apt to find them on reality television than on the scripted sort. There is never a shortage of drama, whether the cast is gay or straight, so if you need mindless summer entertainment on a hot evening, Gimme Sugar may be just what you need.

My favorite show on LOGO happens to be Sordid Lives.  They recently did a series with Beth Grant, Rue McClanahan, and Leslie Jordan.  Leslie Jordan was even in drag dressed up as Tammy Wynette.  I think Sordid Lives will be the hit TV show that LOGO is looking to win the TV ratings battle!

Representations of LGBTQ individuals on television are further and farther between than most of us would like. Not only are there very few gay men, lesbians and other queer individuals on TV, but in many cases when they are represented the representations are not what any of us would prefer. Thankfully, things are improving, and more and more shows are including a more diverse cast.

Often LGBTQ individuals are best represented in reality TV. Networks like Bravo have made shows from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy to Project Runway popular. Recent casts from shows like Top Chef and even CBS’s Survivor have included people who were open about their sexuality. While these shows offered positive representations, others are perhaps slightly more embarrassing, including MTV’s Tila Tequila dating show. LOGO has even recently produced a show featuring Calpurnia Addams, a transwoman looking for love. Programming aimed at the GLBTQ community is offered by the LOGO network and here! TV network. 

Comedies, dramas and other shows, both on air and off, also feature GLBTQ characters. Some of the best are no longer on the air, but included cable shows like Showtime’s Queer as Folk and HBO’s Six Feet Under. Other shows that included great representations of characters and relationships are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ellen, and Will and Grace. Showtime’s the L-Word, one of the few shows on TV with a cast of largely lesbian characters is slated for another season. ABC is in the lead as far as characters representing the gay community, especially with shows like Ugly Betty. Ugly Betty features a transgendered female character in a lead role, as well as gay characters in supporting roles.

Documentaries, political commentaries and witty stand up comedy can all be found on LOGO and Bravo, but less commonly on mainstream networks. You will find that more and more networks are making some programming available online, either for free or for a fee with a service like ITunes.

There are some great media resources online if you’d like to keep an eye on possible new happenings in GLBTQ friendly television. Afterellen.com offers a regular look at lesbian and bisexual women’s concerns in mass media, including television and film. After Elton offers a similar perspective with regard to the media and gay and bisexual men. These sites are both entertaining and informative, and may help to turn you on to new queer friendly programming, whether you’re looking for a ridiculous romp in Dante’s Cove or great and serious programming in a drama show.

If you have not seen the video it is just great.  Cyndi Lauper the person in charge of making this fabulous True Colors tour and leading the cause for gay rights with her speeches and music made an appearance on a CBS Daytime drama.  This is not your ordinary soap opera.  ATWT – As the World Turns has been around for years and barely knew what a gay person was until Luke Snyder showed up on the show (thanks to Lily and Holden Snyder).

I used to watch ATWT with my mother growing up at lunch time every day during school break and really got attached and addicted to some of the characters.  I would have loved to have a Luke on back when I watched the show.  It seemed most gay guys ran off or committed suicide on these shows back then.  Now they are getting more accepted even that pop stars are coming by to help out with their roles.

She sung the new song “into the night” which is  a fun dance song played at many video bars and clubs.  Then she did “true colors” and donated that to Luke and his boyfriend on the show.  It was really touching to see this on daytime tv.

Here is the video from ATWT.  If you have not seen the True colors tour with Cyndi Lauper then you must go see it.  It’s a fairly cheap concert and it supports the HRC and the performers were all spectacular.

The rumors and speclation are both flying all over now that Britney will be filming a video for Madonna’s concert this week.  This is most likely the smaller video clips she does for each short intermission while they are changing the stage around and have the dancers out performing.  A few years ago she did the greatest “shut up” videos to George Bush and to the terrorists leaders and lots of big messages going up on her mega-LCD screens.

This time may be a big diffferent with Britney trying to make a comback her mentor could be lending her a helping hand that really could make her respected again in the music industry.  She could do some opening acts or show up a few shows that are being filmed for HBO or even MTV.  I doubt Britney will be in every show but I bet she could appear in the ones that will be the biggest ones.

You can also expect a big surprise of some sort at this years MTV VMA’s or will Madonna throw anything towards the ratings of the VMA’s since they barely play videos on there anyway.  She will probably save her big concert push for her shows and not deal with the VMA’s but we may find out soon because they air this year on September 7th at 7pm.

The 25th year of the MTV VMA’s will take place at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA on movie sets instead of the traditional NYC theatre or the MIAMI AA Center or the Vegas Palms.  You can already start making your predictions now for the the 2008 award show but I am betting on a performance from Madonna, Justin, Britney, and you might even see Michael Jackson come out of hiding for this event!

The new single Leavin’ is one of the hottest videos I have seen. It is definately a video made for the Youtube generation and already almost viewed 3 million times since it was uploaded. This will be one of the hottest dance songs of the year at gay bars everywhere but the video makes you not want to leave the house because it is hot!!

The new R&B Pop album from Jesse McCartney is titled Departure featuring Leavin’ from the singer that brought us Beautiful Soul a few years ago where he was shirtless in the video as well. Jesse McCartney recently turned 21 and is in the video with Niki Huey who keeps showing off her feet for the camera. I take it Jesse has a foot fetish and maybe Niki does too. It showed his feet a few times and hers several times.

Jesse McCartney resembles Leonardo DiCaprio when he was younger around the time he was in that Beach movie. This is definately the hottest I have seen him. You sort of see him shirtless from behind but you get the tease of seeing his shirt unbuttoned and the girls pants are unbuttoned while they are starring at each other in this lustful video.

This could be one of the biggest celebrity feuds of the year. Dolly Parton is not too happy with Howard Stern of Sirius radio right now after he changed around the audio to make it sound like she is saying outrageous things about other celebs including William Shatner and Oprah and racist comments she would never make. It is all meant to be funny but I can certainly understand why Dolly might be mad at the King of Media Stern.

Dolly claimed she was in shock when she heard of the parody and hurt he would do such a thing. Although, the publicity may end up helping them both. I don’t think Stern knows that he should not mess with this Southern gal. She will come after him! She is definately one of the sweetest and more real celebs you will ever see.

On the same topic, Dolly just finished her concert tour for Backwoods Barbie and it was a great show. I had a chance to see it last weekend and it was great to see her and all of her jokes in between songs. Many of the jokes were boob-related… imagine that! They did not allow cameras in the concert or I would have some to show you. I really enjoyed the older videos of her concerts in the background during a few of the songs.

Kylie Minogue shows no signs of slowing down in 2008. She began the year being honored by the Queen with an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her services to music, and has already earned a host of honors for X, including a BRIT Award for “Best International Female Solo Artist.” In May, she will hit the road for a three-month, 50-date European tour, entitled KYLIE X 2008.

The hottest 25 what? You may ask. Well, I wanted to look at the top 25 guys internationally, just to see who was running at the top of the list of eligible bachelors, guys you’d like to bed, those who you simply have to know and so on. And actually it turned out to be a really difficult task. For a start International Male (the magazine) kept coming up top of the searches as it’s been running for over 25 years – but I wasn’t looking for stylish clothes but stylish men. I also found a goodly collection of dating sites where 25 year old males from many countries were looking for partners and fun, but that’s another story.

So I went with some lists of the top 25 guys, though I won’t list them all here one by one as this page would simply be a list and serve no purpose. Instead here are some interesting ‘top’ facts and opinions that you may not know, as of March 2008.

In the world of Movies there are lots of ‘top lists’. How about the best 25 sex scenes from Hollywood? Brokeback Mountain is in there at number 21, Boogie Nights at 18 and top of the list is a movie called ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’. As for the top stars under 25 years old at the moment: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter as I am sure you know) is 24^th, Zac Afron (yeah!) is at number three and Scarlett Johansson (who is not a man) is at number one. (Yup, she is still only 23.) You can find more fun top lists at movies.aol.com

Carrying on with the task of finding the top men in various categories I stumbled across top10.gaywired.com/Scene which had a list of their top ten male celebrities past and present. There were great shots of Aaron ‘Ajay’ Savvy with his muscled physique and military appearance. Men’s Fitness model Matt Cohen is simply to die for with his boyish good looks as is James Marsden. ‘The face of Speedo’ (do we look at the faces of guys wearing Speedos?) is gorgeous model TJ Wilk and he ranks number four with actor Chris Evens making it to number one. If I were you I’d look at all the guys on this list as they are each as hot as each other.

Then I found a very handy site for anyone who is into top 10 lists: top10lists.com which had nine main categories though sadly none were gay porn or anything sexy like that. It does have the top 10 naked people as caught on satellite for one of those ‘view the Earth’ programs you can get for you computer, the top ten urinals of the world (number one being at the Amundsen-Scott Soul Pole Station!) and the top ten most questionable ‘Best Picture’ Oscar awards. (How Green Was My Valley that won over Citizen Kane.)

But we’re getting off the point here. And my point is that to find the hottest 25 guys in the world seems like and impossible task. Maybe you should come up with your own list? I know who mine would include: my partner, the guy who works at the bar down the road and possibly Chris O’Donnell playing Robin in the Batman films. You see? Not everyone who is hot appears in these lists.

Sirius radio’s The Beat (ch. 86) has begun playing Madonna’s new single from her last recorded album from Warner Bros. records titled Hard Candy. The new single which debuted Monday on Sirius radio is called “4 minutes”. It has more of a hip hop feel with Justin Timberlake and Timberland in the background.

The artwork for Hard Candy has also been released on the Madonna.com site and looks hot!! I am excited to hear the rest of the CD when it comes out. If you have not seen the video of Madonna inducted in the Rock and Roll hall of fame on Youtube make sure you watch it. It is a 4 part video and I loved the story of Justin telling everyone of his B-12 injections from Madonna when she told him to “drop em” so she could stick him with a shot.

Do you believe in life after love? Well you can this time. Cher is making a comeback after many farewell concerts to glitzy stage that once belonged to Celine Dion and still belongs to Elton John and now Bette Midler.

The Pop-Diva and Gay Icon, Cher, has signed a three year contract with AEG live to perform at Ceasar’s Palace Colosseum. The cast includes four aerialists and at least 14 dancers. She is known for having one of the best dancing, choreography, and entertaining shows so it will be a big hit in Vegas. She will also feature some new props and moveable scenes according to Luxe Life of Vegas. A USA Today article claims that it will be “visually unbelieveable.”

Cher is supposed to take stage on May 6th. Tickets will be available in a few weeks. There is also word she will be releasing a new album for 2008.

I am really saddened and shocked to hear of the death of Heath Ledger especially at such a young age of 28.  Brokeback Mountain was one of my favorite all time movies.  Heath was picky about his scripts that he took part in… he turned down many teen movies and always went for the scripts he believed in.

It is such a shame that the media keeps making it sound like Heath Ledger may have committed suicide.  My search on google news I see headline after headline seizing on the fact that he was taking prescription drugs and sleeping pills.  I am leaning more towards the fact that sometimes you keep taking sleeping pills on accident because you may build tolerance to them and feel that they do not keep you asleep.  I have heard of several deaths that are related to sleeping pills in the last year and wonder if they are the devil.  But they are so nice to have when you have insomnia like I do.  So I do not really know what to believe.

I think that he may have been tired and could not fall asleep and may have tried everything possible to sleep.  Just like we all do.  That does not in any way mean someone tried to commit suicide… it means they were trying to fall asleep!  Screw these idiots who sit there and judge someone because they have sleeping pills near their bed.  Nancy Grace and all the talking heads should quit trying to make this something that it is not.  This certainly is not anything like we had with Kirk Cobain who overdosed on Heroin.

They called yesterday the most depressing day of the year but I think today could have been that day.  The U.S. stock market has been falling like the icebergs into the ocean (and the American Dollar), the Democrats are fighting like they are in different parties and possibly hurting a chance of winning against the Neo-cons, and there just seems to be more and more depressing news out of Hollywood.

The stupid paparrazi will just not leave poor Britney alone so I guess she will commit suicide soon because that is what these jerks want.  They tried it with Mariah Carey but she eventually came back and they tried it with Princess Diana and they had their way.

The Person of the Year should be a tie between Anna Nicole Smith, Britney Spears, Ron Paul, and Hillary Clinton. Then again there were other influencers who made the year grand including Keith Olbermann, Ellen DeGeneris, and then Madonna and Al Gore with making the world a better place.

I do not think I could pick from all these people but Keith Olbermann really did the most presenting his news and poking fun of the pin heads over at Fox News. Bringing us truths that we have not seen for years that could all be seen on the Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

Time Magazine picked Russian President Putin as their Person of the Year. Maybe because of his shirtless fishing pictures while he was moving his pecs with his strangely shaped stomach area. Maybe it was that hes got more power than we know over there after the cold war. Or Maybe hes really a nice guy underneath all the testosterone. I would have picked Britney Spears for the Time Magazineaward because she was the most talked about person of the year over President Bush and Putin. Everyone wanted to know when Britney went to the bathroom, drove her kids to Starbucks, drove to the gas station, and walked in bookstores to get coffee.

Then there were the gay friendly people of 2007 who PlanetOut Voted on earlier this month. The winner went to Hillary Clinton for her consistent words on the gay issues.

The worst persons of the year go to Gov. Mike Huckabee, Gov. Mitt Romney, Bill O’ Reilley, Fox Business Channel, Fox News, The Writers strike, amd the extremetists christians protesting along I-35 saying that the highway belongs to them (the start of our next holy war).

I admit I got addicted to this crazy ‘Tequila’ show on accident just by turning channels in my hotel room one night. I was amazed first that my hotel had MTV because most hotels seem to have every boring cable channel but MTV. Not that I watch MTV much but when you are in a hotel as if you are going to get LOGO or MTV Hits or anything exciting that you are not charged extra.

So it lands on some kind of typical re-run-a-thon that MTV loves to do and has done since it quit playing videos back in the 90′s. I think I watched the episodes of ‘A Shot of Tila Tequila’ so many times my head could spin now. They were damn good episodes and I loved them.

Dani is adorable and even the blond huge-boobed amazon girl was interesting to watch when she was kicked off during a after-show. Amanda has a great sense of humor and seems like a fun diva to hang out with but Dani seems more the type to date. One funny thing is that if you click on the video of Amanda and Tila Tequila in the hot tub it asks your age because of viewer discretion. I also kept getting Dani and Bobby mixed up because their names could go back and fourth. I think they are both hotties.

Who did Tila Tequila pick on the dating show on MTV? Did she pick Bobby or Dani? It was kind of a male vs. female and straight vs. bisexual vs. gay tossup which made it more interesting than most dating shows. Girls kissing girls and boys going after hot girls… MTV is sounding much more fun than their gay sister LOGO.

Tila Tequila picked up a huge ratings for MTV networks just under the Hills which was an unstoppable hit.

I understand this is not a blog that has anything to do with Girls Gone Wild but in this case it does.  This blog stands advocates rights for everyone and this time we see a person who has been good to the gay community and an overall good person being kicked down for no good reason.  I have been flabbergasted from hearing the story behind Joe Francis the creator of Girls Gone Wild.  I was driving from Dallas to Austin so I had over an hour to listen to his side of the story and how the locals in Florida took advantage of him.

I heard one of the most amazing interviews on the XM Satellite radio last night on a conservative channel called AmeriRight.  I was channel surfing and stumbled upon it since it was next to Air America.  The Rusty Humphries show was the name of the show.  It was a show that Rusty said he normally would never have someone on so long and never takes the side of someone who owned something like Girls Gone Wild but in this case he did because of the corrupt judge and corrupt police officer in the Florida town where Joe Francis (the CEO of Girls Gone Wild) was arrested.

Supposedly Joe was jailed over a civil lawsuit (you are supposed to just be jailed for criminal charges) for not paying crazy amounts asked of girls that were 17 yrs old (one year from the legal limit in Florida) in videos filmed of them where they lied about their age and showed fake ID’s and the filming was not even done by Joe Francis.   He said the judge was friends and ex business partners of the lawyer for the girls or something to that effect.

Basically, its all a corrupt story in a Florida town and I listened to it for over an hour last night just amazed.  Joe was calling in from jail and you could hear the phone say “this call is being monitored…beep.”  Joe was treated like a murder and shackled up and cuffed similar to the way animals or mass murders are treated in a prison in Florida.  He  did not see daylight for 60 days and he’s still in prison but is now speaking out while hes in Reno so he does not get brought back to the inhumane Florida jail cell.   Both Rusty and Joe agreed that the lockup in Florida was worse than Guantanamo Bay treatment.

Most know him as the Girls Gone Wild CEO but he seems to me like a good person caught up with some shady girls and a judge that went wild on him.  I think this points out many reasons we should always send money to the Human Rights Campaign, Lambda Legal , American Civil Liberties Union, and groups that seek to defend our rights.  You may check out more of Joe’s story here.

The biggest Yahoo search of the day today was Britney Spears for her new CD titled Blackout.  We are excited for Britney and hope it goes to #1.  The album has many hot songs including “Gimme More” which is a sexy dance song you can move to at the clubs.  We even have our own Britney dance we do at the clubs when it comes on!

The fact she is so talked about in the media from sites such as TMZ.com and Perez Hilton you just know Blackout will be hot.  Blackout goes on sale this Super Tuesday, October 30th.  Yes, the day before Halloween.

The gay bars in Houston are having a Britney Halloween where they will feature a contest for the best impersonator.  That will be hawwwt!

So if the new Blackout CD takes off on Itunes ond tops the billboard charts then Chris Crocker will be proud and so will some of the gay bars that Britney supported such as Tigerheat and Piranah in Vegas.  We love you Britney!

Madonna has helped change our culture and openness about sex and now she is about to open up the world of the old-school record labels. With Madonna back in the news again signing a mega-million deal with Live Nation it made me do some downloading of all things Madonna including books and video media. I came across a .pdf file of a book of culture some may not remember.Think back to 1992. October 21st to be exact: was it a coffee table photo book? A publicity stunt? A personal view of sex? Whatever it was, it’s a fact that the world was shocked by its appearance. Actually I like to think of it as a coffee table photo book – which was what it was intended to be and even today I am still a little shocked by it.

I am talking about Madonna’s infamous book simply called “sex”. Looking at it again now in retrospect I don’t find it as shocking as when I first saw it and that’s because the world has moved on – and because I spend a lot of my time reviewing and writing about all things gay. But that doesn’t mean I find Madonna’s book pornographic, though that was one of the arguments against it when it came out. The thing that shocked everyone so much back then was that a mainstream artist, as Madonna no doubt was and still is, had never revealed themselves so much in print before.

The book contains a mix of text and images. The photography is by the same guy who photographed Madonna for the cover of the ‘Like a virgin’ album in 1984, a guy called Steven Meisel. He was also responsible for most of the photos of the superstar during the early 1990’s. Along with Herb Ritts, in the 1980’s, they have created some of the most iconic images of Madonna to date. The text is by the great lady herself though comes from the point of view of a character. Dita, inspired by silent film actress Dita Parlo, a character who appears in some of Madonna’s work of 1992/93, tells us of her lust and longing for sex in a kind of journal form where she fantasises about another fictional character, Johnny.

The publicity for the book, I remember, was enormous and the fact that it came in a sealed, silver mylar-wrapping made it all the more intriguing to the hyped up public. Everyone was clamouring to get a view inside without having to buy it but, in the end, the only way to see what all the fuss was about was to buy a copy. And when you did…

It is not only Madonna who makes an appearance inside. There are images of her engaged in sex acts, and other erotic and non-erotic poses, with guys like Vanilla Ice, Tony Ward and Daddy Kane. Naomi Campbell and Isabella Rossellini make an appearance too. The images, and the text for that matter, often have a dark, urban quality to them so should you ever get your hands on a copy don’t expect to see the kind of images you would see on an adult website for example – you may even find some that you find disturbing. I’m not talking about the three-way sex poses or the erotic lesbian images, in fact most of the pictures are what you’d call ‘classy’ and ‘arty’ – but there is something raw and undefined beneath all of that which leaves you with a sense of having seen something not only unique but somehow forbidden too.

Actually several organisations tried to ban the book, when first published, because of the imagery involved. Not least of all the religious ones. But the 1.5 million, limited edition print run sold out within a couple of days. Each copy was numbered and that was that. As far as I know there are no plans for a re-release and you’ll be very lucky to find a copy in good condition and for sale. You may have some luck at places like E-bay or specialist on-line stores but be prepared to spend mega bucks getting your hands on such a rare and sought after item.

So we turn it over to MTV on a normal day and on TRL all the videos you will find are mostly hip hop artists or rap “artists” that dance around shaking their booties with highly sexual content. They are also screaming out curse words and saying bitch this and nigga that. Then you have bigot uneducated idiots like JaRule who know nothing about real values saying MTV is bad because its corrupting kids with a gay friendly message.

You could not turn on the radio before without a rap song. I think all these rap artists are all crying and complaining because their music has finally reached its peak and they know that. It’s time to move on to better pop music, dance music, and hip hop. There are so many better artists now like Rihanna and Chris Brown who are more talented than JaRule will ever be.

I have read so many blogs and seen so many E! type news reports that keep saying one thing and gossiping about another. It is hard to get the real facts. All we do know is that the MTV Awards will be on live from Las Vegas for the first time this year and only airing one time instead of the mass re-runs we normally see.

Who will be performing at the VMA’s? The usual suspects of the chart topping songs we are all tired of hearing on the radio every 15 minutes. Also, the ones we never get to see on MTV in actual videos because all they show is teenage soap opera “reality shows” 24 hours a day. That is unless you have MTV Hits on your cable which actually shows videos.

The buzz about this years awards is a little different than the last two boring years of MTV VMA’s. There is talk that Madonna or Britney Spears could be performing on the show. Neither artist has performed at the moon man’s Video Music Awards since their big kiss back in 2003. I believe Madonna was on there to present an award but not actually perform. That performance shocked everyone and was pure entertainment from all the divas at the time. The hottest part was the kiss between Madonna and Christina Aguilera. I loved their dance moves as well.   We have had fairly lame awards shows ever since Justin Timberlake pulled out Janet Jackson’s breast.  I think we can finally spice things up once again.

One rumor states that Madonna will show up with Justin Timberlake and Britney will not even be at the awards. I have also heard that Justin and Britney were supposed to perform together but we all know that is highly unlikey even though they are on the same record label. There is major talk about the Vegas magician Chris Angel and Britney working together along with Madonna’s choreographers. Hmm… Maybe another Madonna and Britney performance? Or will Madonna be using Justin’s choreographers for her performance?

I have a feeling that Britney is about to do something big though so my bets are on both. If you get on myspace you notice that everyone is sending out bulletions of a new song from Britney every single day for almost a week now. Her songs have all been leaked on Myspace and file sharing sites… even the dance remixes from TI among other hot dance remixes. Surely she would not be leaking music like crazy if she is not going to show up and make a comeback performance to go along with it. We all know her House of Blues performances earlier this summer were 15-min long and highly dissapointing.

Everyone is pulling for Britney Spears to make a comeback at the VMA’s according to all the hype on myspace and other blogs but if she backs out she will look really desperate. We can only watch Sunday night to find out if any of our favorites show up. I will be looking forward to seeing Rihanna (Please dont stop the music, Umbrella) who has had many hits this year and Nelly Furtado (All Good Things, Promiscuous). I am also keeping my fingers crossed Madge and her out of control daughter Britney take stage.

If you are like me you currently have an Apple iPod with the ability to download music from iTunes and may soon be ready to buy a new iPhone to bring more interactive with your cell phone and music.  A live on-air radio station is so much more fun sometimes because you are not picking every song and can be surprised when you hear an old dance favorite.  No one listens to old school radio anymore on the FM or AM airwaves because it is all junk music and too much advertising.  If you have upgraded your car stereo you could get a new HD Radio station from Clear Channel called Pride Radio.  It is part of a new mix of high definition stations to hit your car and home stereo.

The most popular gay friendly stations are on Sirius satellite radio where you have OutQ and the Beat.  The Beat plays dance music 24 hours a day with no commercials but you have to pay a monthly fee to get this luxury.  I have listened to the Beat since our local dance station was taken away on the FM dial and love satellite radio.  It does go in and out under bridges sometimes but it may be my setup in my car.

There are also online gay stations to get your party started.  GayDar was a popular radio network but it only plays for the UK recently because of license issues.  Although, here in the U.S. you can hear Clear Channels Pride Radio online and there is lots of great choices listed on Queers.cc.

Queers.cc seems to have the largest choice of gay friendly stations.  Netscape radio also has a gay pride channel.  It seems a newly active gay radio station is gayinternetradiolive.com where you can hear streaming dance hits.  They also provide a lesbian lounge around 9pm CST.  If you can put this in your Winamp and listen it might be nice but if you have to have that big popup going and refreshing I would just listen to one of the Winamp channels on Queers.cc.

XM Satellite radio also has free streaming through their AOL partnership.  Just sign in with your AOL screen name and get free XM.  They offer a great channel with women musicians that I just love plus they have a dance station.  XM radio also has Air America which hosts progressive politics and keeps us in the know.

Ellen DeGeneres did the entire talk show today from her hospital bed. Her doctor was on there explaining her back injury.  You could tell she was spacey (and funny as always) but probably in some pain while doing her show. Said she was on very strong pain meds (norco), but she kept calling it Norelco.  All her guests were in a bed next to her.  A very creative way to do a daytime talk show.

Ellen has so much spirit and personality.  I would like to see her run for president.  Ellen is one of the only celebrities to donate such a big amount to charity including the $100,000 for American Idol Gives Back last week.  Ellen is the perfect role model for many reasons and I hope her show continues on for years unless of course she makes that run for president!

Rosie O’Donnell announced her departure from the view this week. We all kind of predicted this would happen but at least we know it is not due to the stoprosie.com campaign or because of Focus on the Family (extreme right-wing religious groups who discriminate against gays). We know now that the Rosie departure from The View was due to a contract agreement with ABC over the daytime show. Scarborough Country had been doing a real campaign against her even before the latest incident. I feel Rosie was picked on a little too much from the media and that our freedom of speech is limited these days especially when it comes to speaking up against Bush.

I am saddened to see Rosie leave the talk show but I am left with a bad taste in my mouth of a gay leader who is either being framed to say some of these things for ratings or really needs some lessons on respect. I disagree with Fox’s News Corp. and the conservative ideas of Rupert Murdock but for Rosie to make comments to him at a luncheon in front of so many high profile people during an introduction I begin to wonder what is going on. Why would someone give Rosie the podium to speak to such an introduction? It just seems to me that she is being setup to do this or she is clearly going too far at some points.

The View ratings have skyrocketed since she has took part in the show thanks to a feud with Donald Trump and standing up for Clay Aiken. Maybe its good someone stood up to Murdock who owns the Fox News channel but maybe in a way that makes him look bad (not the person speaking).

Rosie O’Donnell certainly has other businesses to run including a gay cruise and possibly a daytime show in the pipeline to compete with The View. I just hope she has not burned too many bridges in the post-Imus days that she cannot get herself back in sync.

Why Can’t Rosie be more like Ellen. We need some more gay and lesbian leaders and role models like Ellen Degeneres.

If you haven’t heard yet, there’s some shocking news (with photographic evidence) circulating around the Internet: it appears that Antonella Barba, one of the 20 current contestants of season 6 of American Idol, has given a blow job. (I’m sure none of the other contestants ever have.)

So now there are all these conversations regarding whether Barba should be thrown off the show for this “indecent behavior” taking place. Hell, why not start another one: Do you think Antonella Barba should be thrown off American Idol because she let the wrong person possess pictures of her giving a blow job? That is what she did wrong – it wasn’t the blow job.

Hineini: Coming Out in a Jewish High School is a film about a lesbian student’s fight to establish a gay-straight student alliance at a Jewish high school.

Shulamit Izen enters 9th grade at The New Jewish High School (now Gann Academy) longing to connect more deeply with her Jewish faith. She also starts school as an out lesbian. Using interviews with Shulamit, her family, teachers, and other students – both those who support her campaign and those who oppose it – the film allows the members of this community to tell their own story as it unfolds. What emerges is a potent story of Jewish pluralism and a community navigating the cross-currents of Jewish tradition and social change.

Hiding in Hip-Hop: Confessions of a Down Low Brother in the Entertainment Industry, a book by former MTV producer Terrance Dean, has been sold to Atria Books, a division Simon & Schuster, and is expected to be published next year.

Pink News reports the book will expose “[t]he author’s life as a closeted homosexual working in the film and music industry and his relationships with other closeted homosexuals—film stars, rap artists, and music producers.” While the book will not name any of the film stars, rap artists or music producers, an Atria spokesperson said those who know the hip hop world will be able to identify the people in Dean’s book.

AOL Sports Blog points to the commentary on Tony Dungy’s post game speech found over at OutSports:

Sorry, Tony Dungy and Colts owner Jim Irsay – God did not want you to win the game. If such a deity exists, he/she/it has bigger things to worry about.

Irsay and Dungy’s overt prostelyzing was nauseating, made even worse by Dungy’s upcoming appearance before an anti-gay Christian group. This kind of in-your-face God-squadding suggests that they are in some way superior, and they need to be called on it.

As a friend wrote me about Dungy after the game: “He is the sort of fundamentalist who truly believes that his way is the only way and thus wants to shove it down everyone’s throat, and feels further emboldened by a meaningless football victory that he feels infuses him with even greater legitimacy.”
