Laura Bush on the Use of Gay Marriage in Republican Campaigns

Laura Bush has campaign advice for Republicans:

Some election-year advice to Republicans from a high-ranking source who has the president’s ear: Don’t use a proposed constitutional amendment against gay marriage as a campaign tool.

Just who is that political strategist? Laura Bush.

The first lady told ”Fox News Sunday” she thinks the American people want a debate on the issue. But, she said, ”I don’t think it should be used as a campaign tool, obviously.”

”It requires a lot of sensitivity to just talk about the issue — a lot of sensitivity,” she said.

Now that’s truly bizarre coming from that woman. And sensitivity to whom? Is she advocating that the right-wing fundies oppress LGBT people gently? x

I would like to think she was being sincere. I think that I’ve seen too much television, because I tend to think this was scripted to make it appear that the White House and the Republican Party wouldn’t do such a thing; whatever is being said is really just fostering debate.
