Upcoming NBC Series ‘The Book of Daniel’ Upsets the American Family Association

The American Family Association wants NBC affiliates to refuse to air upcoming series The Book of Daniel.

The AFA said contrary to the show being a “serious drama about Christian people and Christian faith,” the main character, Daniel Webster, “is a drug-addicted Episcopal priest whose wife depends heavily on her midday martinis.”

AFA continues that “the Webster family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer, and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop’s daughter. And at the office, his lesbian is sleeping with his sister-in-law.”

The AFA said it “would be beneficial to all if NBC showed a little more respect for Christians who believe in the Bible,” and the AFA plans to “monitor” advertisers who “underwrite this program.”

The AFA has also protested ABC’s Ellen.

Germany Searches for a Superstar Trans Finalist Would Use Prize Money to Further Transition

Ananova reports that Didi Knoblauch, a finalist on Germany Searches for a Superstar, would use his prize money to pay for a phalloplasty.

The hot favourite to win the German version of Pop Idol is planning to use her winnings to buy a penis.

Didi Knoblauch, 25, one of the finalists on Germany Searches for a Superstar, was born a girl but is now half way towards becoming a boy.

Knoblauch told German media: “I never felt comfortable in my own skin, I don’t want to be a girl.

“Two years ago I had my breasts removed in a very painful operation. But having a full sex change is expensive, about £40,000.

“I’m taking part for the experience of being on the show, but if I win I’m hoping to earn enough to afford the operation.”

Ordered Removal of Anti-Gay Banners Not a Violation of Free-Speech Rights

U.S. District Judge John Shabaz ruled earlier this month that Rev. Ralph Ovadal’s free-speech rights were not violated when police told him to remove his anti-homosexuality banners, which caused a dangerous slowdown of traffic, from highway overpasses.

Advocate.com:

A Wisconsin minister’s free speech rights were not violated when Madison police told him to remove antigay banners from highway overpasses, a federal judge ruled. U.S. district judge John Shabaz told the Reverend Ralph Ovadal of Monroe, chairman of Wisconsin Christians United, that testimony in the trial of his lawsuit against the city showed that the “spectacle” created by the banners on September 2, 2003, created a traffic hazard by causing traffic to slow.

“But there is nothing that suggests it was the message” that caused the dangerous slowdown or caused police to ask demonstrators to leave, Shabaz said Monday. “There’s no evidence to suggest it was the message. None whatsoever. People were asked to leave [the overpasses] only because of the narrow circumstances…. You can’t do it at rush hour. It isn’t the message we [motorists] don’t like, it’s the fact that we can’t get home on time.”

Ovadal said it was likely he would appeal. “The bottom line is, based on traffic congestion caused by a minor accident up the road, and based on angry reactions to our message, we were banned from sharing our message. I believe the appeals court will see that,” he said. “I think the city very skillfully manipulated the facts.”
