I’m Not the Only One with That Opinion

After reading Genia’s post, Lesbians, You Too Can Learn to Jerk Off Like a Guy, over at SistersTalk last month, I left the comment “blow jobs are so much better ;).” Today I got Felice Newman’s new Whole Lesbian Sex Column, Lesbian (Detachable) Fellatio, and read:

Some women who read my column on masturbating with a strap-on (“Jerking Off Like a Guy”) requested a column on blowjobs – that is, oral sex with a detachable cock. Seems my readers are running through the list of male sex acts that we can co-opt to our own pleasure. One woman was particularly blunt: “Blowjobs are so much better,” she wrote.

Maine Won’t Discriminate TV Ads Air

Maine’s Anti-Discrimination Law, which prohibits discrimination based upon sexual orientation in employment, housing, public accommodations, credit and education, is being highlighted in television ads being aired across the state that feature excerpts from public testimony on the experiences of people who have been hurt by discrimination in Maine.

“What we learned from those who testified at the public hearing and from many other people who have spoken out during this campaign is that discrimination happens in Maine and that there is a very real human cost,” began Ted O’Meara, Senior Consultant for Maine Won’t Discriminate. “Maine people need to know the truth about the anti-discrimination law, and why it is necessary. The men and women that stood courageously before the Judiciary Committee, sharing their experiences, deserve to be heard. Brad Nadeau, Martin Ripley, and Hall Wilkie, upon whose testimony the ad is based, are just a few of the many men and women that have spoken out about the discrimination they faced in Maine. What happened to them, the discrimination they faced, should never happen again. No one should be fired from their job or endure harassment and threats simply because they are gay.”

More than thirty organizations including the Maine Council of Churches, the Maine Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Education Association and the NAACP Maine Chapter have joined the Maine Won’t Discriminate campaign. “We wanted to make sure Maine voters knew about the overwhelming show of support from among others, faith-based groups, local businesses, state-based employee associations, medical organizations, and educators. These groups may not agree on many issues, but they all agree that discrimination is wrong and it should be illegal, which is why they oppose Question 1,” continued O’Meara.

“We believe this ad reinforces what this referendum is about for Maine voters. It also reminds voters that a No vote keeps Maine’s Anti-Discrimination Law on the books and a Yes vote will take those protections away– nothing more, nothing less,” concluded O’Meara.

Trans Job Fair Scheduled for Dec. 3 in NYC

The nation’s first “Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color Job and Education Fair” is scheduled to happen in New York on December 3rd. About ten companies have already signed up for the fair and up to 25 are expected to take part.

While there are no official statistics, thousands of people in New York could be called transgender, an umbrella term that refers to people who don’t reflect or identify with the gender they were born with, experts say.

“Nobody knows. Figures are meaningless because most people are not ‘out,’” said Katherine Rachlin, a New York clinical psychologist who specializes in gender identity.

New York City law prohibits discrimination against transgender people, but employers don’t always open their doors, said City Councilwoman Letitia James, of the Working Families Party, who is supporting the job fair.

“Individuals in this community continue to suffer because of prejudice, because of ignorance,” she said. “Let them be productive members of society.”

Damien Domenack, a landscaper, said society’s “two-gender system” poses a problem in everything from job applications to drivers’ licenses to health-insurance forms.

“We’re limited to two boxes, male and female,” said Domenack, 24, who was born female and calls herself a “transman.” “There’s just two options, and I can’t put my true identity.”

Ex-Gay Radio Hits Eight States

“Straight Talk Radio,” hosted by Stephen Bennett and his wife, will begin airing on October 31 (heh, the day of make believe).

“‘Straight Talk Radio’ will feature the most outspoken guests, tackle tough issues and host very lively debates, while injecting a blend of adrenaline, compassion and a bit of humor,” said Bennett in a statement.

“We have two little kids who are growing up in a very different world than we did as children. I bring to the table the undeniable truth that I was not born homosexual, and that homosexual men and women can completely change,” he said.

The Stephen Bennett Ministries Website encourages other stations to carry the program and claims “Your sponsorship is 100% tax deductible.”

The Bennetts said in a media statement that they will “finally have their ‘uncensored voice’ to proclaim the truth about homosexuality, educate individuals and confront the homosexual agenda and its proponents head on – by a man who’s been on ‘both sides’ of the fence.”

Petition Seeks Signatures of Naval Academy Midshipmen Willing to Serve With Gays

Equality Ride is trying to overturn the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy with an electronic petition Naval Academy midshipmen can sign stating their willingness to serve with openly gay service members.

Reitan, 23, an organizer with Equality Ride, said the group is trying to spread the word throughout the 4,000-strong Brigade of Midshipmen in Annapolis, Md., about the petition.

The petition is on the Web site of Equality Ride, a Lynchburg, Va.-based group targeting policies that expel openly gay students from private colleges and the nation’s military service academies.

For the petition, midshipmen who agree with the statement that they are “ready, willing and able to serve with openly gay and lesbian people” are asked to list their name, class, home address and e-mail address and submit additional comments, Reitan said.

He said the group is trying to verify that anyone who responds with an academy e-mail address is indeed a midshipman.

Through the petition, Reitan said the group wants to show that it’s not midshipmen, and by extension service members, who oppose openly gay people serving in the military.

“I think if we get to 50, we’ll make some type of announcement,” he said.

On Friday, about 40 members of the group walked onto the grounds of the Academy at Gate 1, after showing their IDs to Marine Corps gate guards.

The group originally wanted to talk to midshipmen they encountered on the yard about the military’s policy, which discharges openly gay service members or those who engage in homosexual conduct.

Before Friday, participants said they were told by academy officials that they faced the possibility of arrest if they came onto the yard to protest or engage midshipmen.

That didn’t happen, and as a result of what looked like an on-the-spot compromise, members were allowed inside. They had lunch at Dahlgren Hall and walked the grounds of the yard, saying hello to midshipmen hurrying along to class until mid-afternoon, but not talking about gay and lesbian issues.

Friday’s academy visit and the petition is just the beginning of the group’s campaign, Reitan said.

The group plans to come to the academy again, and visit the Air Force Academy and West Point next spring, as well as Christian colleges that expel students who are openly gay, he said.

You can see the petition here.

Members of Finnish Metal Band HIM Fear Bedding a ‘Shemale’

According to contactmusic.com, members of the Finnish metal band HIM are turning to group masturbation sessions (cause there’s nothing homoerotic about that) to keep their sexual desires at bay out of fear that one of them might sleep with a transsexual by mistake.

“Why would I want to pick up a girl from the front row and go straight at it? Especially nowadays, you can never be sure - there’s so many ’shemales’ around.”

Thanks for forwarding this, Jen!
