John Roach: Homosexual Sodomy Injures Society

Can a person who wrote a law journal article which stated homosexual sodomy does injure society, for many reasons keep their personal politics from mixing with the law as a Kentucky Supreme Court judge?

A candidate for a vacancy on the state Supreme Court wrote in a 1993 law journal article that he thought Kentucky’s sodomy laws should have not been overturned.

John Roach, Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s general counsel, said in an interview yesterday that the critique published in the Kentucky Law Journal was not about the state’s sodomy laws or his personal views on homosexuality. Roach said the article was about whether state Supreme Court justices should let personal opinions trump the law.

Roach is one of three candidates for a vacancy on the state Supreme Court. Fletcher will choose Roach, 37, or Franklin Circuit Judge Roger Crittenden, 59, or Fayette Circuit Judge Mary Noble, 56, to fill a vacancy on the state’s highest court. Justice James Keller announced earlier this year that he will step down from the position on May 31.

This is Fletcher’s first opportunity to appoint someone to the court. As sitting judges, Noble and Crittenden can be evaluated through their judicial decisions; Roach’s legal opinions can be traced only through writings such as the law review article.

Top Psychiatric Group Backs Gay Marriage

ATLANTA, May 22 — Representatives of the nation’s top psychiatric group approved a statement Sunday urging legal recognition of same-sex marriage.

If approved by the association’s directors in July, the measure would make the American Psychiatric Association the first major medical group to take such a stance.

The statement supports same-sex marriage “in the interest of maintaining and promoting mental health.”

It follows a similar measure by the American Psychological Association last year, little more than three decades after that group removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.

The LA Queer Studies Conference is the successor to last year’s QFac
conference, held at USC and the QGrad conferences held for the last six
years at UCLA. The new format will allow for plenary sessions and
concurrent panels at both institutions. Although we have abadoned the
conference for graduate students only, we hope for substantial graduate
student participation, since one of our goals of the new format is to
encourage the exchange of ideas between graduate students and faculty
scholars.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Faculty, graduate student, and independent scholars are invited to submit proposals for 20-minute presentations. Please send your proposal (not more than 850 words) and a CV (not more than 2 pages) to one of the addresses below. PTA Denies PFOX

Jeez… how about giving children a chance to find out who they are before they decide if they want to change?

(AgapePress) - The National Parent-Teacher Association is being criticized for inviting a pro-homosexual activist group to its annual conference, while at the same time denying equal access to a group that reaches out to individuals and families adversely affected by homosexuality and supports those who want to leave that lifestyle.

For the second year in a row, the National PTA has invited the group Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) to set up an exhibition and conduct a workshop at the PTA’s June convention. The PTA has meanwhile denied exhibit space to a group that maintains homosexuality is not an inborn trait and that homosexual orientation can be changed.

Regina Griggs, executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), believes the PTA does not want families to hear that there is help for people with unwanted same-sex attractions. “I just can’t even imagine it,” she says. “I cannot imagine that an organization that promotes family-teacher-school participation is promoting homosexuality and gay marriage, denying that ex-gays exist, and withholding information to families and students that change is possible.”

Schoolgirls and Puppets

Maybe I’m the only one confused by this, but - there’s this website with schoolgirls in “suggestive poses” who may be promoting lesbianism and this is somehow connected to a sexuality education program in Singapore? This seems kinda weird to me.

Elsewhere, Eminem has got lesbian puppets in his new video. I haven’t seen it yet. I don’t know if they are dressed in schoolgirl uniforms.

I Knew Justin Timberlake Had Potential

According to Digital Spy, Justin Timberlake is reportedly going to be playing a gay love-interest on three upcoming episodes of Will and Grace - as Jack’s “bad boyfriend” no less. The episodes will appear during next year’s eight, and quite likely final, season. It seems Timberlake may be throwing himself into more acting roles and we have to wonder if his throat surgery this weekend has anything to do with it. He allegedly had throat nodules removed, which were growths on vocal cords.

He is going to shave for this, right?

The Somewhat Daily Quote

The truth is, not all lesbians are humorless. In fact, not all lesbians are any one thing. There are plenty of lesbian types — including those beautiful, stylish, sexy, smart, successful girl-loving gals in West Hollywood, and that’s the word.

From ‘The L Word’ vs. reality

What Should I Be Watching?

From AfterEllen.com:

Among the reported results of a new survey by the Gay/Lesbian Consumer Online Census is that the top show among gays and lesbians is Will and Grace, followed by Queer as Folk, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Six Feet Under, and Law and Order.

Hmmm, not exactly the list most lesbians I know would come up with. While the census broke out the responses by gay men versus lesbians in a few other categories, like favorite magazines and websites, it oddly chose not to do so in this category (and most of the others, like Top Cable Network, where the winner was Bravo, a channel that has pretty much ignored lesbians completely). Which makes this yet another survey result about “gays and lesbians” that appears to be really just about gay men.

Um… Hi. I watch those shows.

Principal Pulls Gay Articles

From KFMB.com:

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - After a Bakersfield high school principal pulled several articles written for the campus newspaper dealing with homosexuality last week, students and the American Civil Liberties Union complained of censorship.

The principal at East High says he feared for the students’ safety. The ACLU will hold a press conference today in Los Angeles to tell their side of the story.

Magazine Seeks Single-By-Choice Women

A message from Dorian Solot:

A writer for Women’s Health magazine is working on an article about choices women make, and wants to include some perspectives from women who are single by choice (not in a relationship). She’d like to do short phone interviews with women who fit this description anywhere in the U.S. The women should be in their late 30s or older.

If this describes you and you’d be willing to share your story to help the public understand that not everyone sees marriage as their goal, let me know! Email me your name, age, city/state, phone number (daytime if possible) and a brief description of your thoughts or situation.
